Today I made the Hamburger Stroganoff (found in another topic under Farm Kitchen). The stroganoff was very good and so easy to make. I served it over rice - I have made rice in my pressure cooker for years. I was wondering what are some of the "everyday" things that you might use your pressure cooker for. Anxious for some good ideas.

I use my grandmother's pressure cooker, Presto Model 30, to make the most wonderful veggie soup. I call it a stew, but it is made with tomatoes instead of gravy base. It is so delicious, especially when I have cabbage to add to it.

I like to cook roast beef or pork in my pressure sauce pan. I also have a great chinese recipe that uses the pressure cooker.
Chop Suey 1 lb beef (cut in sm cubes) 2 Tbls oil 1 cup water S & P 1 cup sliced celery 1 cup sliced onion 1 cup sliced mushrooms 1 cup snow peas (or green peas, if you don't have snow) 1/4 Cup soy suace 3 Tbls cornstarch 1 can bean sprouts (drained) Brown meat in oil in pressure sauce pan. Add water, S & P. Cook under pressure 10 min. Reduce pressure under cold running water. Add celery and onion. Cook under pressure for 2 min. Reduce pressure under cold running water. Add mushrooms and snow peas. Simmer and mix soy & cornstarch. Slowly add mixture to pot. Cook, stiring until thick. Add drained bean sprouts. Cook until just heated. Serve over Rice or chow mein noodles.
I start my rice first, then prep my meat and veggies. It goes together real fast once you get started.
We love this recipe, We just call it Chinese |

I have a 6 quart pressure cooker that I make mashed potatoes in. Works great and does not take very long.

I make a divine risotto using arborio rice, chicken stock, and garden veggies. You almost wouldn't know I didn't spend an hour stirring it! And it only took eleven minutes. Not bad!

OK Stephanie, you have my mouth watering - how do you make the risotto? I have made rice in my pressure cooker for 30 years, but never expanded on that.

Does anyone know if making rice in a pressure cooker is the same as using a rice cooker?
