Hello everyone, I have been posting replys already as everything is so interesting, I couldn't wait to join in, so I'm late in introducing myself. I live in the northwest part of Illinois - Oregon is in the Rock River Valley. We have 6.5 acres, with a little ranch house, a small barn that we recently put up, and a construction trailer that we made into a chicken coop. We have two great dogs, 4 geese, 24 muscovy ducks, and too many chickens. I am fortunate that my house sets way back off the road, 5 miles out of town, with farm fields east, west and south, and alfalfa fields and woods behind me. I like crafts of all kinds. I do mentoring and tutor asl . I do gardening and fruit trees. I hope to get to know many of you.

Welcome Chris! Your place sounds great! I used to have Muscovy ducks..and they didn't make the "cut" when we moved here 3 and 1/2 years ago. I want to get some more this coming spring. I sure miss them. What great mothers they are..and the eggs are great for baking! You sound like you have lots in common with most of us..I am sure glad you are here!!

Welcome Chris, Your Place sounds so beautiful! What is that like? Too many chickens, I don't think so. I read about a woman who has a chicken cam hooked up to her TV and watches "the Girls" ! Funny! Good to hear from you can't wait to get to know you better. Theresa |

Hi, Chris! I live just about smack dab between you and Laura, out in the middle of the corn. We used to have chickens and cows, but now just have horses, dogs, and cats. I sure miss my hens....
I look forward to hearing more about you! |

Thank you all for your warm welcomes. I love every one of my chickens and sometimes I think I would just like to cut back - usually when I'm drowning in eggs! I have about sixty chickens and 24 muscovies (who also lay like crazy). I usually sell them to the ladies in church and give them to family members. One of my husbands sons is a fireman in Chicago and he likes bringing fresh eggs to the firehouse as a treat for the guys on his shift. They really appreciate them. Jan, my crafting consists mostly of my first love - quilting, all hand done. I have two in the works, and ideas for a zillion more. But, in the past I've done alot of needlepointing, have done a few small counted cross stitch recently, and lately the dollie making has peeked my interest. I've blown a bunch of the duck eggs, but have to figure out what to do with them now - I did paint a few which turned out kind of nice. Oh yeah, another thing I tried is a braided rug (still working on that too - its about 6' x 9' right now), want to get it to 9' x 12' for my living room. I don't sell too many things - I think to do that I'd have to advertise and have a website, which I've contemplated from time to time, but not knowing too much about computers, it's not in my foreseeable future. Even tho we are retired (ha! what's that?) time is used up fast. I also do tutoring (ASL) and mentor a young school girl one hour a week. So I'm always busy. And Teresa, living out here in the country is heaven. We have a small eating area and it has a great big picture window where we look out at the alfalfa field and the woods in the back (with a little patio right outside where we often sit and drink coffee)....and then, the living room also has a great big picture window which looks out front ('cause we're on top of a hill) onto acres and acres of corn fields - its heaven and its quiet. Again, thank you everyone for your warm welcome!
