Are there any garders out there who have experience with lavender?

When we bought our house last summer we immediately got rid of the above-ground pool, which had been erected over a large expanse of beach sand. I want to put in 8 x 4 raised beds over the site, incorporating as much as the sand as possible since dirt will have to be purchased. (I had orginally planned on a veggie garden but due to a thriving gopher colony I have had to nix that for this site and concentrate on something they will not find tasty.) I was also thinking rosemary, or any herb/flower with drying potential I can start indoors and transplant that will thrive in sandy soil. If you can help me out, I will appreciate it!

I threw in some lavender starts a couple of years ago and they have gone gangbusters...haven't taken anything special except some water now and then. I don't think it's a fussy type of plant and will do well with your soil and the raised beds.

Ditto ... I bought my house five years ago and the first thing we did was put in five raised beds ... 4 X 8, and brought in dirt to fill them. Get ready for lots of work! *grin* I put lavender in the garden in the front of my house because it is so pretty ... in the raised beds I have oregano, chives, garlic chives, sage and lemon balm, all perennials. They all do great and I'm sure lavender will as well. I put one of each type in each bed ... the oregano is now HUGE! The lemon balm has pretty much taken over the entire yard, and I'll have to divide the chives and garlic chives next fall. I also grow basil every year in one of them, it's an annual so I move it around with my tomatoes ... keeps bugs away ...
