I picked some "pods" today and have some free seeds if anyone wants Wisteria. Everyone told me it wouldn't grow way "Up North" but after 2-years my first blossoms appeared and aren't they lovely!!! Last year I placed 3-4 seeds to a medium sized pot and they just took off....

Let me know if you are interested

I can give yall about 10-seeds each...they look like black beans. Send me your address via e-mail and I can get them on out. They should do really well in warmer climates. You are going to love the PURPLE color and the fragrance. It'll take a few years to bloom, but be patient. There are leaves every year and it grows like wildfire.

Last summer my kids parked their bikes right next to the arbor and you guessed it. In the morning I had vines growing around the handlebars No kidding....

Melody since you have had so much luck with yours... just wondering, how many years exactly does it take for them to bloom? I have had mine in the ground maybe 4-5 years now & still no blooms. It get very full every year & had to trim it back last year, but nothing. The trunk on it has to be at least 3 inches now so I know its healthy. I have an orange trumpet vine that I grew from a twig & it has been blooming for the last 2 years, but I would really love to see that wisteria. They are so beautiful & lots of people here have them. Just not me.

If you have any seeds left over, I'd love some. I am "starting over" in a new home and have to plant everything this year for the first time. Would you like some Sweet Annie seeds in exchange?

Kelly,

I just stuck 'em in the ground when they were first potted and had some height then my husband built an arbor around them...I waited almost 3 years with twining and intertwining the long vines around the arbor and then one summer morning as I was sitting on my front porch with a cup of tea....I spotted PURPLE. I started to cry I know sappy....but I had been waiting so long to see anything other than leaves every year. Be patient. I do know that you should trim the vines (just the really scraggly leggy vines in the SPRING to encourage blossoms for that season. Maybe, she needs a little shock to get her to bloom. I MIST mine usually everyday and give her a good drink twice a week, but that's way up North here. You might have to be a little more diligent in the south as far as watering goes. And, in the fall I just scoop up some withered up maple leaves and bank them against the trunk. That's it. Hope this helps. They told me a wisteria would never grow this far north...HA!

I didn't know Wisteria made SEEDS! We have a vine on the farm that my MIL planted when my HUSBAND was just a little boy (he's STILL a little boy-- only he'll be 44 in July -- (LOL!!!!). I have been fighting with that Vine for years! I get rooted runners, but it's NEVER made seed pods. Are the vines Sexed? If so, mine must be MALE. If you have any extra seeds, I'd like just a couple if you can spare them. Thanks! ~~~ Tracy

Tracy. I have no idea if the vines are SEXED...I guess I could take a peek under there!

Do you get any flowers off of it? If you do there has to be PODS.....I usually find them late in the fall, leave 'em on and pluck 'em in the spring, zip 'em open and out pop pea size seeds.... That's what I have been doing. I put them in a starter pot med size 4-6 seeds and VOILA.....they grow like crazy.

Tracy, I sent the seeds out today!

Here are a few photos of the front of my house taken two summers ago... I planted all around the house last spring with perennials and arctic willow shrubs leading up the front walk. With any luck I can keep filling in the bare spots with summer annuals until my yard is strictly perennial only.

You can see the wisteria arbor way back on the right!

I am longing to get back to gardening and getting my hands dirty
