This is a quote from the video "the future of food". The 2004 film by Deborah Koons Garcia. If you havent seen this I would strongly suggest that you do.. it will fill in the answer to any questions of why should you care about "organics" or seed saving and what is the possible motivation between GMO seeds....

Now she has done it again, this time focusing on the soil... IN her new video "In Good Heart".....

There is a silent war raging between corperate farming and family farmers and way to often the family farmer is left unprotected legally....for all of us farmgirls this should matter to all of us... whether we actually farm or dream of the farm.... I thought this would be a great place to educate one another.....

Rene--where can I order this video? (Future of Food) Have you read "Small Wonder" a collection of essays by Barbara Kingsolver? she's the one who made me aware of GMO's and their threat.

"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect". Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac, 1949

If everyone in the world truly understood how dire our current situation is, the world would experience a great revolution rivaling that of the agricultural revolution some 5000 years ago.

With an apology to Ghandi: "we farmgirls must be the change we wish to see in the world"

This is SOOOOOO Important. It breaks my heart. I attended a meeting this morning, and a big wig research guy was there and totally attcked me about the organics.. he hates organics and I was the one that he associates it with I suppose...But, it breaks my heart that we are in the place we are in with our food, and farming and soil and.................... but I know that the more of us that educated ourselves and gentley educate each other and we committ to doing what we can, we can see this turn around. As Spring comes and farmers markets open, I hope that each of us will get out there and get to know who is doing what. Which farmer or producer is offering what and support them... and we will see change happening from the "grass roots to the white house".
