I make my own laundry soap and I'd love to be able to make my own (handwashing) dish soap. Anyone have a recipe for that?

Sherri and Jamie, thanks to you both. I happened upon some castile and bought it hoping to find a use for it.

Where can you get castile soap? I've been looking and can't find any. Actually, the ya-hoos at Wal-Mart thought I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about.

As I understood it, my mom used to just grate Ivory into the sink. It doesn't take a great deal and works just fine. Just don't expect tons of suds. This isn't a detergent like modern dish soap.
As for buying Ivory flakes, they haven't made them (the real soap, anyway) since 1978.
Castile, like the liquid or bars can be purchased at a health food place or Target in the cosmetics dept. (Dr. Bronner's) Or you can order from their website directly, even gallons!

I tried Wal-Mart and the young-uns didn't even know what I was talking about. I finally found it at Crest Foods, which is a grocery store that is giving W-M a run for their money. They had both the Naptha Fels and the Kirk's Castile. I was about to go to Akins Foods and check it out. I remember bathing with it when I was a kid, but now it can't be found anywhere.

Oh boy I cant wait to make my own dish soap! Melody this is what I use to make my laundry soap and I got it from here and love it! 1 box of washing soda 2 lbs of baking soda 1 box of Borax I also add eo any scent you like to the powder. You can add as much or little as you like. Try a few drops at first then you can add more if you like. Mix all together. I use a small shot glass per wash but I wash lg loads, for smaller lds use 1TBSP. Blessings, Karen
