I am reading through it as we speak, but I think it will get shot down because it might actually be unconstitutional. I am studying Business Law and have learned that if a law is made that can restrict Interstate commerce and be proven to be a detriment to the Economy, then the Supreme Court will negate the law. So even if this passes as is, it will probably be recinded.

Unless our food supply dwindles due to a variety of worldwide factors and our country ends up under martial law.

Just a few thoughts on Monsanto--these people are eco-terrorists. They want to take over the world's food supply for profit and in doing so, are putting the entire population of the world at risk. What happens when disease or pests emerge that are resistant to these pirates' latest
lethal products that are supposed to prevent disease? And the residue from all their herbicides, insecticides, or what have you run off into the ocean and contaminate the world's water supply? Excuse my ranting, but these people really are spawn of Satan. I'm ready to round up some like-minded buddies and protest at Monsanto headquarters. Even if this bill dies (and it probably will), Monsanto will still go on. and they'll not stop till they have total domination of the world's food market. Yes, they actually sit in meetings and talk about it. And the public is mostly ignorant of what these PIRATES plan to do. They are ECO-VILLAINS!!!
Well, I just had to get in my two cents worth. Monsanto=

Sorry to say and bring the political side into this...but here's a big fat "somemof told you so". And this is just the beginning.

Some are becoming too reliant on the governmnet for everything!

It doesn't work and it ties the hands of everyone...except those in power.

We need more free enterprise, not more governmnet.

Let all PLEASE do some serious in depth research about the people we choose to vote for.

The NAIS thing has been in the forefront now for about 2-3 years...maybe more.

Happy to report all my chickens are still ours with no numbers.

A lot of this stuff may be for the bigger industrial farms.

There are just too many of us hobby farmers to be regulated.

I wonder if it's tied to weather or not folks have a tax i,d. so they can sell at the markets.

I had thought about getting one until someone told me you have to show a profit grossing more than 2-3,000 I think. And that's over a few years time too, not just in 1 year.

Gads, what's to become of this once great FREE nation!?!?

I've known for a long time that Monsanto was an evil company but after googling HR875 and reading and watching news reports...that is like really far-out-there sci-fi scary. This can not be allowed to happen. And, to answer your question Heather, it is Rosa.

Did a little more reading up on this.

It makes me sick to 1. see that this bill is trying to be passed by Rosa DeLauro whose husband works for Monsanto 2.know that she is a Democrat which to me translates to : flaming liberal who wants governmnet control and regulations over everything

Too many regulations on ANYTHING = less of a democracy, suffocating, selfish, NOT free

Definitely NOT what most of us believe in or stand for, that's for sure

Lets all say a prayer, continue to write e-mails/letters and hope this bill gets KILLED

Anna -- Don't paint all Dems with that broad brush! I'm a Democrat but not a 'flaming liberal who wants overnment control and regulations over everything.'

I understand your reaction to the bill, but don't throw mud at me!!

Well, I guess I am going to get a letter out. On her website, she only looks at mail from her constiuents. While I understand, when people outside that area have concerns, especially those who were inudated with VOTE FOR ROSA information, I think that is a darn shame. She was such a champion when I was living there and voting. Then she changed districts and now all of this. I think her pockets are being line with green. HMPH!!!!!!

sorry.

Not meaning to get anyone upset here. Thought it might happen. Just my thoughts.

Comments aimed more at the person trying to pass the bill. Becasue most in the higher positions seem to be like this.

They lie to us commoners../.or those of us who vote for them, then stick in their agendas anyway.

It happens on both sides

When it comes to stuff like farming and ways of living like us gals share here on the forum it makes me ultra mad when yet another city slicker Washington politician tries to run and control our lives no matter who they are

Adn they think the jails and court system is full now. Just wait till they try to prosicute all us gardeners. They can't keep up with the pot growers. I can just read the headlines now. Belle's farm raided, Belle hauled away in handcuffs for raising tomatoes and peppers. And she thought she could make her own salsa. We'll show her. I hope they arrest Ole Ron too. Then the county/state can pay for his meds. Maybe they will send us to Getmo.

I believe that if this comes to pass that alot of Farmers and small farms that are family owned will protest. This cant be regulated. There are to many of us small farmers that grow for ourselves and family. You cant regulate people that would be underground seed keepers...There are to many of us. And that is how it will be...This country was established by people who wanted freedom from controling government. And now we have people trying to control the food supply...We forget that with GMFs we are 1 crop away from starvation. And I believe that the GMFs are the cause of our bee population depleting...Dont get me started on this subjected. I know I wont let someone tell me what I can grow and not grow. That is what happened to some of our farmers. They took moeny not to grow certian crops.

This is exactally the point I was trying to make.

There's ALREADY too much governmnet!

As with the gun colntrol issue too, there's just too many of us "good 'ole gals" who will go down fighting and still grow/keep our own self sustaining farms and crops

This is insane

Hey, I sent an email to the American Farmland Trust asking if they had a position on this issue. An AFT staffer actually emailed me right back, and said they were considering it because there were so many concerns about potential effects on small farms. She encouraged me to check back with her soon, as AFT was discussing.

I just thought it was great that I actually got a response! So often you don't.

I personally do not feel this is a democrat vs. republican issue, nor is it a socialist agenda vs democratic... it's a stupid bill and it should never be put through.

Unfortunately there are going to be leaders out there who feel they are doing what is best for the people, thinking it is because people don't know what is good for them.

Socialism has gotten a bad reputation...In Canada we have a social democracy, everything in balance (universal health care but freedom to choose treatments etc...), if this bill represents socialism for you guys then no wonder you are opposed, I would be too! This is not socialism...this is out-right control.

Keep fighting... I think some of your political leaders need a wake up call. :)

Ladies!!!
Lets not let this ruin what our goal is....grow our own....
Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do
Or do without.....
If we save seed, then we wont have to be worried about no food...big business will always be big business, always has, and always will be, lets get our noses to the grindstone and work harder....my DH said this morning(I have a huge "flower" greenhouse), that no more flowers more than what I already am doing, but, time to save seed from and for food....easy,........... yes, just do as one would for flowers....
