Nikki: I repair old quilts. But, what I want to tell you that the story of that quilt from start until it totally gone is important. It is part of it's history. You should write the history on your computer and put it on cloth and sew it to the back of the quilt. Some of these stories are funny, some are very sad. One I will share with you was a perfect 1860's applique wedding quilt. The gal asked me if I could fix it. Her mother had alsheimers disease (sp.) She was a smoker and had apparently dropped ashes on the quilt. Somehow there is a perfect 6" square cut out of the middle. The square itself is nowhere to be found. I told her the same thing I told her. You need to include as much of the history of the quilt as possible on cloth and then sew that into the empty spot.! We forget our history if it isn't written down. Good luck.
