I just had to show my babies off. Anyone else have pictures of your barnyard babies? I'd love to see them.

These are mixed breeds and about 2 wks old.

Oh they are so cute! For several years we have hatched chicks for 4-H but have always had to give them back. This year though we are starting our own flock and your pictures just make me all the more excited!! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone! Unfortunately my children left the door open and my dog got ahold of them. It's been a sad couple of days and I feel like the worst chickie momma. I am putting a lock on the door and will be bringing more babies home Sunday. I will post new pics asap.

Christina, I just saw this and I'm so sorry that happened. But it does happen alot. I hope you have better luck with the next little ones. And bad dog! Actually, that did happen several years ago. My dogs got a couple of my little chicks. I guess they were just the perfect size to play with and that's all it takes. But I sure amm sorry it happened to yours.

Oh I love them. Can't wait to have chickies of my own soon. I want to get fertilized eggs at first and then the kids and I can watch them hatch. After that we will probably order chicks...

Christina...so sorry about your misfortune...farmlife actually brings you REALLY face to face with REAL life and it is not for the sqeamish! Things happen but it is not cruelty which is another whole subject taking place on some of those corporate operations. Great farmers always love and take care of their animals and you are a great farmer...it was just an accident and instinct in animals, including ourselves, is something that we cannot and should not control or try to change. The old saying..."when you know better, you do better".....good idea about the lock and thanks for sharing it all with us.

I agree and new that the good comes with the bad when you farm. I think it's just that this was my first batch of chicks and it was so unexpected. Today, however, is a new day and I am actually picking more up this afternoon!!! So excited. I will post some pics if ya'll want to see them! Thanks everyone for your support. You girls are the best. Have a great day!

Oh Christina I am so sorry. But don't feel like a "bad chicken mama"! We all have to go through those hard lessons on our farms. Can't wait to see your new Chickie Pics!
