Cleaning Up:  Lazy ironer...is that a word? Help!  |

Ok ladies I need your help I hate to iron my mans shirts I'll iron anythng else but his shirts make me crazy!! I have been using downy wrinkle releaser and then tossin the shirt in the dryer for a minute or so and viola! a non wrinkled shirt!! The problem is I have no clue what is in the wrinkle releaser... I try to use things that are good for the environment and this stuff is full of crazy things... do any of you farm goddesses have a homemade version of this awesome stuff??

I am shirt ironing impaired too!! It takes me forever and I usually burn myself. Now I get my husband the 100% cotton wrinkle resistant shirts (Lands End and LL Bean have them, I'm sure other places do too.) As long as you pull them out of the dryer quickly instead of leaving them sitting there all day (I'd never do that - ha ha) they look really good. I generally look online for whatever colors/patterns are on sale, so they aren't as expensive as they might be. I'm going to look for that Downy stuff - there are three wrinkly shirts on the ironing board that have been there since CHRISTMAS.

I have a wrinkle releaser that I got from Meleluca. I don't know what it has in it but I will check, it is suppose to be all natural.

I love to iron shirts. When I was about 10 years old, I was staying with my Grandma and she went to a club meeting. The lesson for the day was the correct way to iron shirts. Each lady got to get up and try her hand at ironing the "correct" way. I wanted so much to take a turn but since I was just a little girl, I didn't get to. I have liked ironing shirts ever since and I iron them the way they did at Grandma's club meeting.
When Ole Ron was working, he wore heavy heavy cotton welding shirts. I starched and ironed them. A guy at work ask him where he got his shirts done and he told him that his wife did them.. The guy ask how much I would charge to do his. I told Ole Ron to tell him that I would charge him the same as I did him. That would be his entire pay check, less $20 walking around money.
On the other hand, I refuse to iron jeans. Ole Ron starches and irons his and I put mine in the dryer and give them a shake. |

Melody! ROFL!!!! That was so cute! It must have been a Southern gal...they always call you HONEY down here or what I love....when you're old like me, instead of "Mam" they call you "Miss and your first name.....like they call me Miss Sam which for some reason makes me feel ever so young! LOL!
Antoinette...I am like you...I love to iron and see all the neatly ironed items stacking up or hanging on hangars. Sunday is usually change sheets, laundry and iron. I usually watch HGTV while ironing...I am such a multi-tasker! Or at least I try.
And Belle....I love what you told that fellow worker of Ole Ron! What a hoot! That was a great line! You gals make me SMILE big time!

I learned a long time ago to only iron the cuffs collar and the front, the rest is covered by a suit coat. My mom only buys wrinkle free shirts.

My DH is the best 'ironer' in the world!!! He rocks at it and likes to do it! When I get ready in the morning, and lay out the clothes I intend to iron and go shower...by the time I get back...He has already ironed them and they are crisp and ready for inspection [hehe] :) 25 years in the Marine Corps did that man some good!

WOW!!!! I can't imagine what it would be like to see a man ironing...I just can't even wrap my mind around it...like seeing a man cleaning a toilet...same thing.....Jamie, could you take a picture and send it to me! LOL!!!! He sounds like a keeper for sure!

I suppose it's a trade off Sandra b/c I have NEVER seen DH clean a toliet!! That's quite alright though...takes me longer to iron one pair of pants than to clean a toliet!! LOL

I too used to use the Downey Wrinkle Releaser until I couldn't find it one day and in my haste decided to use my "air freshner" of water and lavender eo. What do you know? It did the same great job as the MUCH more expensive Downey! And it doesn't have near the cloying smell that the Downey has. I've never gone back! Toss you Downey and just spritz it with water!

Sandra, I hate to be boastful but my husband cleans the toilet, vacummns, irons cooks & does the dishes, makes the bed and takes out the treash that's why I married him.. Seriously.. He was a bachelor for 20 plus years... makes a big difference..whenhe had to do it by himself.. We actually share the housework now that i am not working out of our home..and we have been married almost 3 years..

Boast away! I think that's wonderful! I raised my 3 son's that way and they do it all also. One is married but the other two aren't and they keep their places better than I do! My daughter is the one that was messy not my boys. But my daughter and I are both "pack rats" which makes our job keeping our homes neat and clean MUCH harder but the boys are minimalists and keep their homes and possessions well-taken care of from the toilet to the car to their clothing and themselves. In fact, the oldest one is a little "anal" about it and I think I used to be but getting older has mellowed my OCD! LOL! Bravo for you Cheryl and your wonderful mate!

I must post this.... I just cooked dinner... He just cleaned up the mess.. * except doing the (girl work) which means, washing the counter tops.. I do this so much better than he does & he knows it.. ( dinner wasn't very good btw..). A new recipe.. He liked it I didn't.. but ya can't win them all....

| Cheryl, sounds like I could have posted your post. I cook, Ole Ron cleans up after I put away the left overs. And I like to try new recipes. Some are good some are not. The not so good ones, I throw away the recipe. Ole Ron cleans toilets too. This a.m. he cleaned the utility room. Well, he got it up to a point that I can really clean it. Kind of like cleaning house before the house keeper comes. |

Cheryl, Jamie and Belle......do any of your dear hubby's have brothers???? What about Ole Ron? Any brothers on his side? I'm single and was never going to get married again but GOLLY Miss Molly....if there are guys like that out there nowadays, I may just have to reconsider maybe????? NOT!!!! LOL!

Hey Heather, I hate ironing too, and I avoid it at all costs. If the whole, throw something damp in the dryer thing doesn't work to release the wrinkles, I will use a teaspoon of eco-friendly fabric softener (I really like the Method products, you can find them at Target) to a cup of distilled water. Mix it in a spray bottle and spritz it on your clothes and stretch/pull the wrinkles out. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the real stuff too.

I had to iron shirts, dresses handkerchiefs etc as job when I was a kid and have done it minmally as an adult because of that. I am a big sweater wearer and most of my pants don't have to be ironed. Now they have such good wrinkle free button up shirts my iron collects dust. |
