| I'm not sure how this could be accomplished but I remember Yankee magazine has a swap column that you respond to by mail and people offer for trade a particular item and you respond with what they are looking for or what have you. We all seem to be of like mind and it might be a nice way to share our gifts and surpluses without subscribing to the consumer insanity . Is this a possibility? Would anyone be interested? Bramble |

Bramble, this sounds like a terrific, creative idea to me! Maybe others have experience on how best to accomplish this. Can't wait to hear!

Yes, this sounds like a great idea. One thing I'd like to trade is books! I have quite a few, in excellent conditions, all types including cookbooks.

This is a great idea. I think this would be fun. I suppose we could begin in a simple way by listing certain items we are interested in sharing, like Cecelia's books (great item to swap, by the way), and see if anyone else here in interested.
Then the mailing/sending process could take place by emails to one another.
Does anyone have old canning jars with glass tops? I need two of the glass tops for two of my topless jars.

I'd be interested in this. I've lots of books, cookbooks, magazines, scrapbooking items, odds and ends of materials. I'm always looking for western items, particularly at this point material. I also collect old kitchen utensils and tools.

Suzy-- I'm a quilter too so fabric I have! Any particular colors you are looking for? I am always on the look out for small blue prints, the older the better. Maybe we can swap some, I collect old red handled kitchen utensils and cookie cutters. Just when I think I couldn't find anything new, I discover some gadget I've never seen before. Books would be great for me! I also collect old aprons, red handled kitchen tools as well, crochet pot holders, and chickens, just to name a few.

Bramble -- I've some blue prints, not real old, but I've recently been working on a quilt with blues. I can go through my fabrics. I'm looking into reds, pinks and variations of white. I don't know how to email from the member profile ... went to it but couldn't figure it out.
Kim -- what type of books are you looking for?
I'm getting ready to move, so I need to really!!!! clean out. Have lots of magazines, etc.
I'm out to the garden before the rain sets in. Need to work the soil today and get it ready to plant seeds.

Suzy-- At the top of the page log in and go to the member section. That will take you to my info and you can e-mail from MJF and I can respond. I do have pinks, reds and whites so you might have a swap!

Hi to all and happy Spring! Us farmgirls here at MJF are thinking about engineering some software for our website that would actually give us a special section for swapping and bartering. We have one on our backcountryfood.org website. Click on backcountrybarter to see how it works. It's pretty slick and I think it would help us swap all kinds of fabulous things. What do you think? I did not know of the bcfood website either...It is nice, and I think would work great for barter and buying and selling of farmgirl items. Welcome back Meg! Thanks to you and jpbluesky for the birthday wishes! It really felt like spring today, bright sunshine and warm. Did lots of raking and moved dirt for a new bulb garden. I can sure feel all 49 of those birthdays in my back right now

Anything that might be good to read!! I collect old Nancy Drew books which can be hard to find sometimes. It seems like feast or famine. I read a lot of fiction and non fiction books. Not too much into mysteries. I know that's vague, but I ususally go by whatever sounds interesting??!

I collect old postcards from the 1900-1935 time period. I especially love real photo cards. My favorites are the ones of the parks out west, and of rural life. So, I would be interested in those for the trading site plus books, too.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of farmgirl postings. It's is a home away from home for me. I'm a farmgirl at heart with a big dream to move to ours soon. How about you?
Just read this particular forum for the first time, don't know how I missed it. What caught my eye was that you are from MO. Where is Trenton? I live in St. Louis.
I, too, am a red-handled kitchen gadget collector, along with teapots & accesories, of course, fabric and I love barns. Matter of fact, my family room is shaped like one and decorated as such.
I love a good bargain and love to give things to people. It's a good feeling when you know you can do something to brighten another's day, so if there is anything I have that I can supply someone else with - it's yours. That's what is so much fun about living by the saying of, "one man's trash is another man's treasure" - except in this forum's case - one farmgirls "trash" is definitely another farmgirls "treasure." It's really not trash, right? - just recycled. This sounds like it could be lots of fun.

love this idea. it's so good to be able to take something that is still useful and beautiful (to someone else) and give it or trade it instead of just getting rid of it.
i was raised to use something until it fell apart-my mom still says "that blouse...those shoes...that book still has miles of good in it." and so we kept it until whatever it was didn't.
i collect cream pitchers and buttons and beads and vintage rolling pins and so on and so on!! I also read alot-i try to read something non-school related at least 30 min. before going to sleep. I love mysteries-especially like Nevada Barr and Earlene Fowler. So i have lots of stuff to trade.
