Hey Ya'll - hope your Sunday is a beautiful day. It's sun shine wall to wall here. We had fellowship Sunday at church today and we have so many young family's there, the babies were so cute, I just want to hold all of them.

Well, on to my question if you don't mind indulging me again. What do you do about fire ants in the veg. garden and the green house?

Tryed to just live with them , but they don't want to share.

Does anyone have any ideas how to stay organic and still get rid of them (my patience has ran out with the beggers)

hi savanna, and welcome to the site.
i dont know if there is a simple solution to the fire ant dilemna, but i.m with ya on the non toxic solution.
the only one i have ever heard of is howard garretts, aka the dirt doctor. he probably has a site, and i know he has a lot of info about organic gardenting.
hope that helps.

Someone recommended Splenda gets rid of them, though I don't know what it does to other creatures that could get into it. Salt maybe???

I have always used the peeling of a cucumber. Just put the peelings where you see the ants. By morning the ants should be gone. It has always worked for me. It was passed down to me from my Father.

cucmber peeling! Wow! Let me tell you, I live in the heart of fire ant country, and I have never heard that. I am going to try it. Over the years we have tried boiling water, all the bad poisons, everything we knew how to do. I think that if you peeled up the upper layer of soil in the entire southeat, it would be ONE BIG FIRE ANT HILL.

Howard Garrett, "the Texas Dirt Doctor" says that cumbled tansy leaves get rid of fire ants, so guess what I am going to be trying this season?
