I have been fighting huge ovarian cysts since the age 13. I have had 6 surgeries (the most recent was 2 wks ago) ,2 in the past year, and finally received the diagnosis of endometriosis. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you control the pain? When do you see another doctor to check if it spread? When should I be feeling better? I know I'm still healing from the surgery but this is ridiculous, I'm miserable.

HI Christina,
I am so sorry that this is making you so miserable. I know how painful and aggravating it can be. I have fought with it since I was 12. I would get severe pains in my lower abdomen every other month. I was scheduled to have laproscopy done, but found out I was expecting.
There really isn't anything you can do to get rid of endometriosis, other than surgery and honestly, that can only help with the "build up" it won't necessarily make it stop.
I have found that lessening my caffeine and sugar intake and using 800mg of Ibuprofen were my biggest helpers. I also used a heating pad.My endometriosis has gotten a lot less severe since I had my children. It goes away when you are pregnant because you are not ovulating during that time. It is only a time helper, it doesnt cure it either.It took about 6 months for mine to come back in full force.
I have gotten the pains so bad, it has taken me to my knees to the floor. It is indescribable!
I know, I am not much help, but those are the things that I do to get some relief.
I usually only go to get it checked out if the pain is really severe.
As far as feeling better after a surgery for it, I really don't know. Your doctor should be able to tell you something about that. :)
Hope that you feel better soon. I will be praying for you that you heal quickly and that you are able to get it under control.
I know just how to pray since I've been there for a long time. :)

I remember those days. I thought I was going to go crazy!! It was like I would be miserable for 3 weeks out of the month.grrr....
another thing that added to it that is the case with most endometriosis people is IBS. Most of them that have endo will fight the IBS too. It makes your poor tummy hurt so bad you are about ready to give up. Maybe that is partly your case? It would be something to look into.
YOU ARE DEFINITLY NOT ALONE!! WE ARE NORMAL...hehe..ok, well, at least you are..hehe

I don't know about being normal..haha...but the tummy part is true. Light-bulb...lol. I just chalked that up to the surgery but now that you mention it, I'm in the little girls room all day it seems like. Thanks I will add that to my list for the doc. If I don't write it down I will surely spaz and forget while I'm there. Thanks again!

Its definitly worth looking into. Even when I was pregnant and the endometriosis was gone, I still had troubles with the IBS. It feels like you could have appendicitis and its a lot like period cramps. No fun, but its a lot easier to deal with. ;)

| Christina, I have always had trouble with cysts but I didn't know that I had endo for SUCH a long time. They were treating me for IBS and finally figured out that it never was that at all. I have to tell you (and I know you aren't going to want to hear this) I had a hysterectomy about two years ago. I know it isn't for everyone but it worked wonders for me. I have never regretted it and I feel so much better. You poor thing, I hope you get some relief, in ANY form!!! |

Thanks Cindy Lee. I agree about the hysterectomy. I have been debating a second opinion. my doctor took a tube and a 7cm cyst last Aug, and this past surgery left me without an ovary. I just can't figure out why he left the uterus. He is picking me apart one organ at a time and it's getting a little old. Not to mention I don't have time for "down time". I am a stay at home mom of 4 and the animals sure can't feed themselves...lol. Sorry I was venting a little. I am just ready for it to be over. Thanks again for sharing!

I've had problems with ovarian cysts on and off since I was a young teen too. Jessie, you described that pain perfectly. I had went to the doctor back then about it and after he ruled out my apendix he would say it's just cysts on your ovaries take some tylenol and lay down for awhile, that was about it. I've got IBS too and I didn't think about the relationship, but it makes sense. My friend has had trouble since her teens with both too. They found several years ago she had endometriosis and recommended a hysterectomy, which she had. It helped some, but the HRT she took afterwards caused some severe complications.

| I had endo as well and finally had a hystrectomy at age 36, best thing I ever did. The pain from the endo was worse than being in labor for me and I was relieved to put that to an end. |

I agree this pain is like nothing I've ever felt! I think maybe my doc is still on the fence about a hysterectomy because I am 28. He is so into the "wait and see" approach, meanwhile I'm left in pain. It's like he doesn't even care. I am not too far from Hopkins and I have really been thinking about going there for my second opinion. Even if it turns out to be the same as the first I think I will feel better having a second look. If not my belly, my sanity! lol My luck I would have some reaction to the HRT too, and be in a similar situation again. Wouldn't that just beat all lol!!

Oh ladies I'm so sorry. I am told I don't have endo, but something is up cause I've had cramps throughout the month even when I didn't have my period. I'm so sorry you all go through so much pain. Mine is ok and the birth control has helped my cramps that are unexplainable....but I worry it is the onset. Hang in there ladies.
