I am in my third week of my starter and I have some questions I hope someone can help me with. I used 4 cups of King Arthur Organic All-Purpose Four and 3 cups of purified water (I add 2/3 cup flour and 1/2 cup water for 6 days.). I don't have a ceramic bowl. The only thing I have is plastic to put it in. And, I keep damp cheesecloth and a plate over it making sure to leave some breathing room. When I uncover it, there is a layer of brownish liquid on top. Is this normal? I have tried to make bread 2 times and have yet to get it to rise. Help. ![](icons/icon_smile_angry.gif) |
