Have you seen these U-Tube videos? I'm hooked! I love Clara. I'd love to cook with her and listen to her stories. I'm secretly having a taste for peas & pasta.

Girls, you have to go look at this, you will love it. The lady doing the cooking is 92.Its like having your Grandma or Aunt come into your house and tell you how things were made during the depression. DEB ABOVE HAS THE LINK.

Did you notice that Clara holds the potatoes and onions in her hand while she diced them? That is how Mama did it. I used to but been watching the cooking shows so much that now I lay them on the cutting board to chop them. I think we'll have the poor mans meal for supper tonight. Thanks Deb for sharing this with us.

I always hold them in my hand too, my daughters think I'm crazy. But that is how we did it at home. I must be very old.

She's from Chicago! I thought I saw something in her kitchen, a newspaper or something that said Chicago on it. I added her as a Facebook friend (giggle!)

Thanks for sharing her website.

I watched them all last night. So cool. The thing I love the most.... that someone in her family ACTUALLY took the time to video her talking and cooking. Something I always wanted to do with my grandma, but never got around to and now it is too late. Thanks for sharing the link. It really made my heart happy!

Wouldn't it be neat if MaryJane could do an article on Clara in the magazine?! That would be such a treasure issue for sure!

Clara really reminded me of my Grandma Lydia. She was my Dad's mom. She sure is missed. I have wonderful memories of times with her. Thanks for posting this Deb. It really made my day!

I'm so giddy! Clara added me as a "friend" on Facebook. (giggle) I wonder if she answers "fan mail".

I agree, she would be a wonderful addition to MaryJanes magazine.

I made the Poorman's meal from one of her videos last night and it was a big hit, the only thing I changed was using spicy smoked sausage instead of hotdogs, the fella loved it! I'll definitely make it again :)

I wish more people were still that humble and real and aware of blessings......cookies only on Sunday. She is a love!!! Thank you for sharing that video with us. It made my day.

By the way, my mom never had a chopping board. She hand held all her potatoes, carrots, fruit, and everything and chopped it that way, too!

And I hope that someday, when all the lovely Claras are gone to their reward, we that follow behind them can be good matriarchs, and folks will watch us stand up for the simple and good things of life.

Thanks for sharing. Clara is very charming. I'll have to try some of her meals. I bet the kids would really like them.

I know when times were hard growing up, my mom made us beans (navy, pinto, etc) with ham and rice. If we were lucky, we got cornbread fritters or salmon patties to go with it. We ate a lot of beans and rice...

I made the Pasta & Peas dish tonight. My super Italian husband said it was like something his grandma used to make. He loved it. It seriously didn't even take me a half an hour from beginning to end to make. Thanks!!!

Thank you for telling us about this! What a treasure! I am making everyone of those dishes! I'm sure she's from Chicago...she has an accent and sounds like my Italian relatives from there and she mentioned going to Lake Geneva and we used to do that...they actually had a big "chicago CLub on Lake Geneva in the old days (Lake Geneva, WI).
Trust me...if I had to chop things in my hand...I would be handless! Hats off to Clara and whoever took the time to film her....we need to honor our elderly in this country....there's a lot to learn from them...plus I'm right around the corner from being elderly myself!
Yes....MJ should do an article on Clara and more like her!
Thanks again for sharing this with all of us.

I just watched Clara's Depression Cooking video --the Poorman's Feast. You have to love this dear woman, and she helps viewers to understand just a little bit of how very difficult things were during the Great Depression. I was born just after the Depression, but had a great understanding of why my parents saved everything and only bought what they could afford and could pay for with cash. My mother had an old cookbook from the government titled "How to Eat Well Though Rationed." Can you imagine how young people today would survive if they had to be frugal and couldn't buy just any amount of food they wanted when they went to the grocery store? It was a tough time, but I believe it showed the strength of our parents & grandparents and the experience left an indelible imprint on their lives.
