This was one of my husband's favorite photos of me, and I have put a message to it...in honor of him and the memories behind the photo and the phrase! My hope is that he can see it, know that everything I'm doing is because of him, my love for him...
It's been on my mind lately that we all care too much about the consequence...the
consequence of taking action, the consequence of voicing our opinions, afraid to speak up, to speak out...to stand up and to stand up for...and this post is to urge everybody everywhere to do just that...have the courage of your convictions...regardless of the consequence.
Oh, Billy Joel has it right in his song, The Longest Time ..."I don't care what consequence it brings...I have been a fool for lesser things."
And I have...I have been a fool for MUCH lesser things.

What a beautiful girl you are, and the photo is gorgeous, and the message very special. I have trouble doing that very thing - standing up for what I believe, and not always thinking what it is going to bring in the form of consequence. Your husband must have been a wonderful man.

That is how I have lived my life Miss Tillie Willie. I couldn't agree with you more. My Grandma used to say to me, Honey I don't care if the whole school thinks you are wrong, If you know in your heart it is the right thing, you stand up for it. I taught my kids the same thing and now my grandkids too. That is why I picked the quote at the end that I did.

Great message, Glory. You are right. I do it sometimes when I feel VERY strongly about something, but other times, my mother's words "don't rock the boat" take over. Especially when it comes to standing up to a man for what ever reason. I'll have to work harder on that!
Love your dress, by the way. It's just beautiful and you do look radiant. It's no wonder your husband loved that photo of you.

I love this thread. My mom taught me to speak up and growing up liberal in a small town, I sometimes found myself going head to head at school and it didn't win me a lot of friends. For my high school graduation my parents bought me trophy with the engraving "Best Risk Taker" and I loved it!

This is wonderful!!
When I turned 40, I made a grown up resolution to no longer just sit and take it. I speak up much more often, I let people know when they've crossed the line with me, and I generally have taken control of my feelings better. This, after years of staying silent. My family isn't quite so free with their comments to me anymore~~I've got them 'on guard'! LOL

Amen! That's probably about the time I decided to speak up more...it must come with age, experience and wisdom.
I'm just glad that I "got it"!
Let's all encourage and support each other to continue the journey...no matter how difficult it is or how many family members, co-workers or friends try to get us back "in line"!

I, being the baby of the family, have always been a little mouthy when I see an injustice. Oddly I back off other times and always think of the great comeback later. I have a friend who is a Libra, the scales, who see both sides of everything and I have learned alot from her over the years.
Speaking up is no longer a problem for me. I was elected to City Council 5 years ago, just got re-elected and sworn in again. I have voiced my opinions very often (one local woman said I was the "Star" of the city council because I am not a yes person.
I have served two terms on School Board and will be running for my third term in May of this year. I have been School Board Treasurer for the last 4 years (they keep me because they had a special stamp with my name on it to sign checks with lol). I have learned that if I don't speak up then I will beat myself up mentally later for NOT speaking out. Of course I have been called the B word many times but that doesn't hurt my feelings. I have earned the right to make a difference and I am doing what I can to make our city the kind of place people want to visit.
I will soon be attending the Parks and Rec meetings as well as a liasion for City Council.
Life is too short to shoulda, coulda, woulda, and the time to speak up is now! The consequence of NOT speaking up is "Nothing will change". We, as farmgirls are a very strong group and everything we want is for the betterment of all...not just ourselves or our families.
Well, I love the picture, you are a beautiful woman inside and out and it shows..
Some people look for happiness, others create it!

While reading my Dear Jesus book (by the author of Jesus Calling) this morning, I came across this scripture and it was timely and somehow seemed meant for me:
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Psalm 37: 5-6
Hope this scripture might help somebody else today as well.

Haven't been on lately! I miss you girls...
I've been dealing with legal matters, depositions and I cannot believe the energy rush I've gotten by simply standing up and speaking out!
Oh my Goodness...this is turning out to be almost fun!!
I highly recommend it!

Glory..you ARE beautiful and no doubt will be until you're 150 if you keep to your conviction; speaking out, and taking a stand....that's the part that will KEEP you beautiful. We are being bold just by being Farmgirls. How many people do you try to explain this to who eyes just glaze over because they can't understand why we would want to chat with people we don't even know. But, ahhh, we do know each others hearts and values and longing for a simpler way of living.
We are different. A thread a few days ago asked if we are weird because we are no doing the consumerist mall lifestyle. That in itself is bold and there by gives us courage to stand up for the things we believ in because we know that if nowhere else; we will at least get heard and respected here

What a great photo, I had to take a second look to see if it was Christy Brinkley. You look very happy. Thank you for your inspiration, how often I worry of being too much. My consequences are usually speaking my mind and offending someone when I was being honest about my opinions, wanting to be friends.
I will carry your image in my mind to remind me of how beautiful we are when we are being true to ourselves, no matter the consequences.
