I'm so happy for you. Yes, you'll save money and your skin will thank you, too. I've been using it for quite a few years. When we moved here, I purchased laundry detergent because I just didn't have the time to make it. After 3 months, I had to make the time. Our skin was so dry and itchy using the detergent. I believe it's safer for septics and not as hard on the washing machine. No scientific proof - just my farmgirl experience speaking here.LOL
Just wanted to add that I use Ivory.

Maryjane....I LOVE your blog and am still on it listening to your great music while I post this to you. I have the borax but I am still looking for the other ingredients...I may have to order online since all we have here is Dollar General and Walmart about 30 minutes away. I'd go to Walmart today but we're expecting some bad storms so I think I'll wait. We just got through the ice storm saga but oh well....it only makes you stronger! And I'm still here!
I love your blog, pictures, music, dishes, recipes...All of it! AND, I just sent in my fee to Sisters on the Fly yesterday! I can't wait to chat with you gals too! I don't have a trailer but I have a Tahoe and was looking up accessories and they have air mattresses and magnetic screens for the windows so that might be good enough for now until I can save up some money for a trailer.
I am so excited about all of it and I love all your Cowgirl vintage things in your trailer.
I will check your blog daily...it is just like visiting with a good friend....thank you so much!

Hi! I am excited to make this laundry detergent, but it has been a huge challenge to find the Arm and Hammer WASHING soda! I live in Missoul, MT and not one store carries it. After making about 10 phone calls (I even called a taxidermist!) I gave up and ordered it from Arm and Hammer's website. Because the shipping is nearly $9 dollars, I am guessing that it will still be economical. Does anyone have a rough breakdown on the cost per load? Hopefully I will soon be mixing up my own detergent!

It costs roughly 2 cents per load which is awesome compared to the 15-30 cents per load that commercial soaps usually run!

Thanks Alee! I never figured out the cost and what great news that is 2 cents! Almost a shame not to make my own laundry detergent! I am LOVING the detergent and will never go back to store bought!

Hugs,

Good for you Maryjane. It is very satisfying to make your own laundry soap. But then making anything yourself is very rewarding!
