I had an old pair of wool menswear-style black and white plaid pants that had seen better days, the lining was torn and there were a few small holes from wear or snags.
I put them through the washer, hoping to make felt, but that didn't happen.
Then I got the brilliant idea that if cut into smaller pieces, and bonded to some heavy interfacing, it would make a terrific purse if paired with some black vinyl, very classic-looking.
I salvaged the pockets. It is still a work in process but, I'm getting closer.
Inspired by MJF's current issue, I have some black, white and yellow Mary Engelbright bee fabric I'm thinking of using for the lining, do you think it would be too whimsical to mix with the plaid?

Brenda - as far as I'm concerned it is never too whimsical:) That sounds like a great project!! Amy Grace

Life should NOT be a jounrey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming. "WOOHOO, what a ride!"

I, too, tried felting some sweaters I got at Goodwill following the instructions from COuntry Living mag to wash in hot water & then dry in dryer. They didn't felt, just shrunk. I will try on more time with boiling water & then, I guess give to my friends 7 yo daughter..They will fit her now. |

Lisa, I had the same problem with 2 sweaters I tried to felt. Are we missing something. Probably if we didn't try to felt it then it would. I am going to keep trying. I want to make all of my friends sweater purses for Christmas this year. Let me know if you figure it out.

It sounds like it would be cool! I'd surely love to see it when you get finished.
