What is the easiest way? I have some iron on patterns that I want to use and make a quilt out of denim patches.

How do I get my pattern onto the denim so it shows up? I've never stitched on a dark fabric before.

Hmmm. If you can get ahold of a white or yellow transfer pencil and trace your pattern with that on a new paper and iron it on, it should show up easy enough. Sounds like a beautiful project!

Get one of those leather thumb thimbles. You are going to need it if you are doing more than one little bit of embroidery or if the denim is thick.

Also a sharp needle will be needed. Not your average embroider duller needle.

Wow Deb - that brings back memories. When I was in high school I embroidered two jeans jackets - both were completely covered when I finished. For most of it I did song lyrics in tiny little letters, so I did those free hand, it looked really cool from a distance. I did do a large earth on the back of the black one, I think I just did the design free-hand with a sharpie.
Unfortunately I lost/gave away both of them in a period of major personal upheaval - wish I still had them. Embroidered denim is great - the quilt would be really cool

If you have a Michales or JoAnns they have a embroidery transfer pencil
I think they have white ones and dark ones.
I have used them . they are pretty good. pinkroses

To apply your pattern to dark fabrics use dressmaker carbon under pattern.

I used to embroider my jeans in high school (back in the olden days), but they were
pretty faded and the transfers showed up on those. (wouldn't have been caught dead in new jeans, ya know lol)

Thanks! I'm going to see if I can run to Joanne's today.

I'm making a camping theme quilt. I have 2 sets of embroidery patterns to use:

Now, how big to make my patches?

Those are really cool patterns you've found. It's going to look amazing. Don't forget to pot pictures so we can see it.
