My hubby's hours were cut last week. Next week he is getting bumped to a lower-paying (by $3 an hour) job. There is a chance that he may even get bumped out of that one to a job that $2 less than that! So I am on the hunt for a job. Hopefully hubby ends up on 3rd shift- I'll have an easier time finding something then, instead of him working 2nd shift now. We don't want our kids in daycare, so this is important to us. There doesn't seem to be much around unless you have some kind of degree or training. I don't want to go back to being a CNA- I let my certification expire, or I could get a job doing that pretty easily. I hope this economy starts getting better soon!

I wish you luck, Heather. Things certainly are not looking very positive yet and I think it's going to be a while before it does. Hang in there!

Good luck, Heather. Is your husband looking for another job too, or do you think he can ride this out at his current company?

I'm so sorry to hear that, Heather! Times are getting tougher and a $3 an hour drop in pay is a huge difference. I don't know how far you are willing to drive but the Manchester library is looking for a part-time person. There really aren't many jobs listed around here, as you said, but I hope you can find something that is a good fit for you and fits into your family schedule.

Good luck on the job hunt Heather. I'm looking for one too. We need a second income now! My husband has not gotten a decent raise in 6 years and everything has gone up so much we can barely make ends meet. There are tons of us looking for work and not too many jobs available. I hope things work out for you and everyone else looking!

I'm lucky I have parents that are willing to help out. They took me grocery shopping earlier tonight and paid. That will help out immensely! I don't know what I would do without them!

Elizabeth- the library would be interesting, but I have a difficult time with sleepiness. I used to work 3rd shift at a nursing home and it was quiet and I fell asleep all the time! I need to find something loud, where I have tons to do. I applied at Walmart in Manchester and McD's in Dyersville. I'm kinda hoping Walmart calls, the 10% employee discount would be helpful in addition to the pay. Plus I used to work at a retail store and loved it.

Amie-hubby's not looking for another job, he's been at this one for 11 years, so he has seniority. Without out, he would already be sitting at home on unemployment. We're just riding it out for now. January and February are bad months even in decent years. Even with the $3 an hour drop, he probably wouldn't find anything around here for that pay. Plus he's 3 years away from 4 weeks vacation. Hopefully things start looking better soon!
