Ok, I am not a girly girl, or at least I wasn't and I do whole heartedly believe in aging gracefully but this past year I have become obsessed with beauty. Like, I tried not coloring my hair but I can't take all the grey and white ICKY!! And I now LOVE to wear makeup and my clothes are getting girlier. I like feeling pretty. I don't think it is a midlife crisis, just a change in direction. I am trying different things to look my best, not younger. Does anyone else understand???

Sort of. I have suddenly started to wear foundation again and I cut my hair. I don't think my little transformation is a mid-life crisis, either. It's more of a...hmmm, I don't know what to call it. It's just to go with the new me after I made some major changes in my life. And it's not to look younger but, like you said; to look your best. I want to look healthy and look like I take care of myself.

I don't think I'd call it an obsession, though. I put the makeup on and do my hair in the morning and don't even give it another look until I wash it off before bed (if I even remember).

Heather- do you remember the posts about being a Lipstick farmgirl? I don't think that caring about your appearance is wrong or a mid life crisis! I think as we grow up a bit we learn the difference between what looks good on us and what is fashionable. I think we also learn how to find in current fashions things that look good on us. If you are happy with what you are doing, the own it and love it!

By the way- I am all into aging gracefully if that makes you happy, but I pluck my white hairs! And if too many more start popping up, I will start doing touch ups too! When I am older (NOT OLD!)- like when I retire, I will let my hair change to what nature wants it to be! And I love how I feel wearing makeup!

Alee- if I plucked all of mine, I would be bald!!! LOL I have a heriditary "skunk" stripe that is all white. Runs in my family.

Yes, I remember those posts. I think it is because I am embarking on such a new, wonderful life and I want to put the best AUTHENTIC me forward. I never wore much makeup at all and I NEVER did my hair until I cut it shorter. For me, it is about being accountable. My career is definitely "High powered" and not that I believe in keeping up with others, but instead I want to stand out for being a true me. Maybe it is just being in my mid 30's, I finally get me!!! : )

I think that is the biggest thing- as long as you are doing it for yourself and not for others, then whatever makes you happy rules! :D

I seem like I'm going the other direction - I used to color my hair and now I've quit. I used to get my hair cut and styled, now I'm growing it long and wear it in a braid much of the time. I only wear mascara and lipstick most days. I like getting fixed up to go out but we don't go out much anymore. My new glasses really make me look plain Jane but I'm ok with that. I kind of feel like I'm finally being myself.

It took me three years to grow out all the dyed hair I had. Now I have long dark hair with cool gray streaks in it. A beautician friend of mine says, "Do you know how much people pay to have their hair streaked like that?"...lol. I have made a conscious effort to start cleaning my face with all kinds of homemade cleansers and scrubs and masks. All the ingredients were in my cabinets. It feels wonderful! And I swear I can see a difference. I've been catching myself wearing clothes that are a little more decorative and "funky" and wearing jewelry and scarves and such...if the world doesn't like it, the chickens and goats sure do!

I probably need to take better care of myself in that department too. I've gained too much weight lately and I don't take the time to get ready that I used to. I usually just wash my hair and brush it out, then brush it later in the day with my fingers. My husband got me a hairdryer and my aunt got me a new curling iron for Christmas.. hmm maybe they are trying to tell me something. ;-). I'm just kidding actually I hinted to them I wanted those things. I'd like to color my hair when I get a chance, right now it's kind of between colors. It actually perks my mood up a bit when I color my hair, I like it when it's really bright auburn.

I usually wear makeup everyday that I go out, but I use natural tones. I wear mostly jeans, I don't really have a lot of 'dressy' clothes. I'd like to get a few nicer outfits though.

Ok, I fully admit, as I posted in the Healthcare section, that I think, in fact, know I am having a mid-life crisis or whatever it is called today. I can feel it so strongly. I need a BIG change and this might be one of the steps for me. I feel like I haven't even scratched my potential in life and 2009 is the year to do that. Right now, the feelings I am having are all over the place, I feel a little lost and confused. ARRRRGGHHH!!!

Heather, I know that feeling (lost and confused). Right now I'm a bit scattered. Here I am now middle-aged and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I feel like change would be good for me but yet I get nervous when thinking about 'leaving my comfort zone'. But I do feel like a change is coming before too long. I have dreams of creating something of my own. So far it's still in the dreaming stage and I'm gathering information. Heather, I hope 2009 is your year to shine!
