Oh, roller skates that strapped over your shoes - it was such a status thing to wear the key around your neck on a string...and the older girls that had real skates had cases with fluffy pompoms on them...I was so envious... |

I remembered and/or experienced 20 of these. Yep, older than dirt and I suspected it. :-) I especially liked the diners that had the tableside juke boxes. There was one in our town called 'The Sweet Shop'. My mom worked there when she was young and she met my dad there. She waited on his table and that's how they met.
When I was a teenager we would go there on Saturdays when we 'went to town'. I always would play the Led Zeppelin songs on there. That place surely had the best hamburgers in town and was always packed.

OMG, my first car was a Pinto, too! It was a 5-speed on the floor and I learned how to truly drive with it. My folks didn't let me drive much, except for the tractor when I was growing up. I bought it a couple weeks before I moved from Ft. Bragg, NC to Ft. Knox, KY. I went home for a couple weeks in Nebraska. Wow, what a learning experience that was!

You can take the farmer's daughter off the farm but you can't take the farm out of the farmer's daughter!!

Melissa, I loved, loved, loved my Pinto. I drove it for 9 years and i can't recall how many years my Pop drove it before me. When It was traded in on my new, used car in 1988 at the local ford dealership, & they drove it away from me- I cried. The salesman thought he was smart (not!) and told me that my car wasn't going to be put on the used lot -no, it was being driven straight through the dealership lot and 50 miles down the road to Tijuana, Mexico. OOOh that made me mad. I got really offended.

Okay, so I'm older than dirt. Doesn't hurt my feelings! In fact, two of my favorite chairs came from S & H Green stamps -- I still have them, they're still in good shape, and fit like a glove!!!!

Someone mentioned bread delivery. I remembered the bread man but just now remembered his name. He was the Manor Man. He had little tiny loaves of bread that he gave to the little kids while our Moms looked through his tray of goodies. |

I remember 7, but don't feel that old. Those were the good ole days.
