Hi everyone, my name is Vicky from Popple Creek MN. We have a 40 acre farm here and have draft horses, buffalo, dogs and cats. I work around Hinckley so I am only here on weekends and holidays until I can find a job closer to home. We have been remodeling our 1800's house (which had been modernized)as close as we can to how it looked when it was first built. We live as simply as we can... use oil lamps, wood heat, homemade food, etc, although we do have electricity (I need my computer!!), and although the house is wired for electricity, we use it as sparing as possible. We try and grow as much of our own food as possible, which right now with me being gone much of the week is hard to keep up with. As I noted in a different posting, a little girl asked me recently what I was reading (MJF mag)and I told her it was about Farmgirls. She asked if I was a FAMGIL, and I said YUP!! And she said she wants to be a FAMGIL too. So to all of you fabulous famgils, I am so excited to become a part of your amazing family here!

Welcome to the fold, er flock, uh family! All of the above;) Your place sounds interesting. Are you raising the buffalo, or do you just happen to be near a wild herd of them?

Welcome Vicky! You sound quite busy!! Your animals sound wonderful! We too have horses, cow, goats etc. and wood heat! Brrr cold in the winter some days! We're also trying hard to cut down on the electric this year and planning a huge garden for spring! Looking forward to chatting with you!

Welcome Vicky from a former Minnesotan - burbs of Minneapolis. Use to go camping at the casino up there in Hindkley. Your place sounds like a lot of work, but very rewarding and fun. Look forward to hearing more about it. Is it just you and hubby or do you have kids too?

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes!! I grew up in Oregon, lived in Monmouth and Condon, as my dad was in the Air Force. So I spent alot of time sight seeing in Oregon and Washington! I've always loved it out west!My BF and I were out near Coure d'Alene a few years ago looking for property. We found exactly what we were looking for but someone else liked it better --$$$!! Annie, maybe we have met and not even known it, as I work at the RV Park at the casino in Hinckley. I have 3 grown kids, my last son graduates this spring and then is off to Air Force training 2 weeks later. I have been divorced for quite awhile. It is just me and my best friend that have the farm. Actually he grew up there and then had the chance to buy it a few years ago and jumped at the chance. We started with 2 draft horses, who are half brothers born 3 days apart, and then started adding the buffalo. I can't wait to move down there full time, just waiting for the right job, which are far and few between these days.
I know I will love it here, all of you have been so kind and welcoming. Thank you!

Hello Vicki. Here's a late welcome from Ga.
Are you raising the buffalo for meat? There's a guy here that raises them and sells the meat at our farmer's market. It really is good. Quite expensive, though.

Hi, Vicki, and welcome from one of the Louisiana farmgirls. Draft horses, huh? My dream is to have two Clydesdales. And I will, as soon as I can convince my dh that they are EXACTLY what I need. So far, he ain't bitin'!

Hi Kris,
Yes, unfortunately the buffalo will eventually be for meat, but it won't keep me from treating them like my kids. People have commented that they have never seen such tame buffalo, but they are still wild animals, and you must respect that. But they are a majestic animal. Some day I will get a blog going and post the pictures of all of our
"pets" and house improvements. The house is a long, slow ordeal, but very satisfying
when we see the end results. It's not to everybody's taste, but we love it. The best comment came from someone who said it was like walking back in time. The house is so old
that I'm postive whoever gets the property after we are gone will just bulldoze it down.
But it is exactly how we want it and we are very happy there.
