Well, after some darn bone chilling days here in IL, we got up to almost 60 today. With a dramatic flip in the weather like that, we got some really heavy thunderstorms and rains too. Half of our basement flooded on us. Instead of taking down Christmas decorations, we had to empty a room full of books & shelves, rip out the carpet, pad and tacky board & nails. Thankfully my 3 sons helped me inside while my husband dealt with trying to reroute the way the water comes down the hill & into our house. What a mess! We all have backaches, but the room is drying out now.

I hope the other IL farmgirls didn't have any water damage thanks to today's storms! We have our fingers crossed that no more water will come in now. Lots of our neighbors got water in their homes too. Sure hope 2008 doesn't have any more surprises for us!

I'm sick and tired of the rain too, Dawn. Our house didn't flood thankgoodness. And I'm really surprised the roof didn't spring a leak. It usually does. But the yard is wreack. It has been completely flooded up until the other day when the rain slacked off for a while. Now it's a sea of mud and keeps getting tracked all over the house. BLUCK!!!

We have had a few warm, dreary days her in Georgia. Nothing like you are getting though. :( Mostly on and off sprinkles and warm temps in the 60's. I'm pretty sure this yucky flip-flopping of temperatures are why people are getting sick, me included.

I hope your water woes are over and things will dry up soon.

It is raining here today, but have predictions of snow & rain or snow alone the entire week. Temperatures in the low 30s but down to 14 tomorrow. Hen house is almost finished and as of yet but it stayed dry inside. The door & window are going up as soon as it stops raining. Got the straw ready and will get the "girls" hopefully next week. Their Chicken nanny is caring for them until we are ready to go get them at a neighboring town. I cannot wait. They are laying right now and I think we are going to take the rooster too.

Well the rains and melting snow caused some real flooding here southwest of Chicago. I don't know how long it will take to recede since the ground is still frozen. Our basement is dry but it's quite a mess. I sure miss having that room to store things in. It is nice to get a break from the bitter cold temps we had this whole month, but the wind chill today was hard to deal with.

Good luck in moving your girls in to their new coop Cheryl. I sure hope the building is warm & sturdy for them.

I hope you feel better soon Karin. So far we've been healthy this winter, I guess the frigid cold froze all the germs for us! Of course now that I said that, I better hurry & knock on wood!
