I'm overrun with clothes. My laundry pile seems ridiculous for 3 little boys and 2 adults. Is there a logical number of clothing that folks should have?
I want to throw out everything! I hate laundry anyway and it seems like its multiplying on me. Would 4 pairs or everyday pants and one pair of dress pants be reasonable for boys ages 4-9?
What about for me? How many dresses, skirts, blouses or what-have-you's seem reasonable?

Cyndi- Ok, I love clothes and I really have to have 2 wardrobes for myself as I am beach bum farmgirl at home and all business suits at work. Scott wear jeans and t-shirts and I keep khakis and a white shirt pressed in the closet for special occasions, otherwise, he wear his uniforms. We keep the work and home wardrobes seperate. The hall closet is big, so we installed a rod and all work related items, shoes, belts, socks, and clothes all go in there. Great in the morning to keep organized. I know that I don't have to hunt in my other smaller closet for work clothes.
In our bedroom, home clothes and I converted a corner into storage. I put soap, razor, tp, etc...stuff the adults use- in there. It is right next to our bathroom, so it is easy and convenient.
Kiddo- well we only have one, but I do keep 2 pairs nice pants and 4 nice shirts, hanging up in his closet, along with jackets out of season. I add one of those extend a rods (Bed, Bath and Beyond) that lets the rod hang at Charlie's level. I have a hanging shoe organizer in the closet that holds Pull ups, socks, undies, misc. items like winter stuff. This frees up space for his dresser.
Top drawer- long sleeve shirt, pants
Middl drawer- short sleeve shirts, shorts
Bottom- PJ's and leftovers
By the garage door, I have a massive shoe organizer.This keeps shoes at bay and we are not hunting for them in the morning.
As to the amounts, maybe pack some stuff away and see what you can live with for awhile- what works and what doesn't. : )

Hi,
Four pairs of pants and one dress pant would be good for boys ages 4-9. I wouldn't throw away the extra clothes though. I suggest washing the extra clothes, keep them on a shelf out of reach in the closet, and when your boys wear out the four pants they have, you will have extra in the closet to give them to replace there old pants. There are boys in my family and I know little boys can wear out clothes fast.
For how many clothes you need, that all depends on if you work outside the home or not. I will assume you don't, you would only need, one dress (3 dresses if you go to church on Sunday), one skirt and blouse to match(possibly two if you go to church), 3 outfits to wear when you go grocery shopping and go to town, two outfits for hanging around the house, 2-3 sets of pajamas, 7 pairs of underwear, and 7 pairs of socks.

Oh, I forgot to mention in my reply above....
All the extra clothes that you don't need, box them up, put them away in the garage or somewhere, and when you get tired of what is in your current wardrobe, make changes with what you have in your closet for what is in the box. Put the exchange from the closet back in the box. This is a way to keep your wardrobe different.

Thank you Belle and Heather - I like the idea of keeping the extras out of sight and reach. That will keep my 3 ham sandwiches from pulling everything out. I don't work outside of the house and so I don't need "office attire" but I do some public speaking occasionally, so I guess I can keep a couple of those outfits in a garment bag in the closet. My husband works at a hospital, so he wears scrubs at work. He only works on Sat/Sun so he's home Mon-Fri wearing mainly jeans and T-shirts but he's saying he wants to start wearing more button-down shirts instead. I'm figuring the same amount of pants for him as the boys and possibly a few extra shirts.
I get in my own way because I want to feel like a girl too - but I think MaryJane's aprons will solve that for me.
