thats a joke right? didn't i see that on Jay leno? That pile of meat looks like cotton candy goo...that's gross, and the other topics on Meat Slurry and Advanced Meat Recovery were rather disgusting! It's funny because he asked me if I wanted a chicken sandwhich the other day, and i said only if it is real chicken, he said what do you mean? I said it's not real chicken if it has the consistency of our kitchen sponge...
My husband killed his first deer about 2 weeks ago, and I just made stew over this past weekend. He was more skeptical than I, but he's sold on natural meat now. So if he gets a gun(he borrowed one) he said I can get chickens! So we would be set!
And to think that those nuggets are probably a treat for those super picky kids! |

No, Cristine, it's not a joke. The meat is separated from the bones by putting chicken carcasses in a centrifuge and blasting it off. Then they press it into chicken nugget shapes and use binders like Xanthan gum to make them stick together.
I am incredibly proud to say that my 2-year-old son knows the difference between mechanically separated chicken nuggets and my own homemade chicken nuggets that are made out of cut up chicken breast. He eats mine with gusto and won't touch the others. I'm so proud of my little foodie. |

I still swear that menu was a joke on Jay Leno. Rene' it's all about conveneince, and having a machine do the work, and laziness, and greed... |

I know I believe it is real, but it's so bad, it ought to be a joke. |

I just saw this and had to laugh a little. I read Christine's post and I just have to ask, what is your husband going to do with chickens and a gun? I know you shoot deer but is he going to shoot chickens? Has he done this before? I'd love to know.
I cannot eat anything that looks like that. It has to be real food. It's so good to know there are others out there, too, that won't take their kids to Mcdonalds. I make my own, too. I can get just about 2 meals out of 1 chicken breast making strips. And they are so good.

My son is 2 and has never eaten at McDonald's. I hadn't eaten there for over 5 years until this August when I got an insane pregnancy craving and had to go there at 11 at night, but I don't plan on having any more babies after this one is born in the spring, so hopefully it'll never happen again. |

We are growing our own chicken this spring, did for years, as as we have gotten older, too much work, but, after learning "all over again" about what they put in our meats .....we are growing our own....

Farrah, that's a good question. The texture of mechanically separated meat is different. It tastes like minced meat gummed together, which is what it is. Real meat has a "grain" to it and will pull apart in strings. |
