Due to dh's extended unemployment, I've tried to be as creative and frugal as possible this Christmas. For example, I got my youngest son a pack of 8 different boxes of yummy hot chocolate flavors, a mug, and a fleece blanket. I was stumped by youngest daughter, and was thumbing through some books for ideas. I looked in the Stiching Book and noticed the crocheted hexagon scarf pattern. I had started one for myself with size 20 thread and only got 1/2 way thorugh when my business took off, so it's unfinished (34 hexagons!) But, I thought, what if I made it with slightly bigger thread, less hexagons, - it might be doable for Christmas for dd. I went to our little local variety store and they had size 10 thread for $1.99 a ball, so I bought the only two they had in the color I chose. Came home and started fiddling with the pattern and decided one row of the larger hexagons would make a nice scarf. I have it about 2/3 done and I will definately post a picture when it's finished - maybe later today. I made it in "spruce" which is a nice soft green. I think it's going to turn out nicely, not as long as I'd hoped but all I can do with the thread available. Check back - hopefully a nice gift for $4.00.

Wouldn't that be a beautiful beadspread or table cloth? I don't think I have it in me to make tht many hexagons in this lifetime though! The scarf was only eight and then I crocheted all the way around it - and that took me two days!

wow! That is gorgeous! I am sure she is going to love it. I don't have the particular book that has this scarf in it, maybe I will have to keep an eye out for it. That pattern truly is lovely!

Sherri, I'm going to go get my book and start that pattern too. It looks great! Was is very difficult? I can read patterns and I am not a beginner so perhaps I'll try.
