I have made benches from old headboards and footboards, but also they can be quilt racks (just space the headboard and footboard a few inches apart with wood spacers and then hang the quilts over the headboard and footboard. I have also seen headboards as the back of a hutch with shelves attached directly to it and then set on a buffet or dresser, etc. And using the same concept as the quilt rack, but perhaps more like 12 inches apart, you can make a darling planter box (just make more of a box rather than just spacers between.
