gosh amy .. this is such an olde post .. glad you found it! we've done so many wonderfully awesome improvements since moving here. it still has it's 1800's BONES .. but we have found the most magnificent PRIMITIVE construction crews (best friend, kathy SUGARBUCKET and also Charlie and Friend from Greensburg .. i've seen the incredible work they have done on an historic home in town .. and they are going to do some things that kathy doesn't have time for. i'm thinking about having the entire INSIDE walls (addition) re-painted a more 'subtle primitive color' .. and the floors re-painted too. such fun making a home your very own! thanks for the sweet words. can hardly wait for you to visit! xo

there must be something magical happening around because I truly had the same experience. this post seemed to just APPEAR. I have been here clinging to every word of your story and the pictures. Of course I have thos CL issues too and can't believe my luck in finding all this at this time. If I started to go into all the coincidences I would be here another hour explaining. Short version is that I too found myself in KY on a small farm (no cabin creek, but really a sweet place)through a quick series of events. 6 months ago I was a respectable teacher in NJ and JUST LEFT it to come here. Everyone back in jersey thinks I have totally lost my mind (for many reasons!)to come here. There are so many questions I have for you and am dying now more than ever to come to the gathering. I also wonder if the sugarbucket construction team is available cause I need help here pulling this together. I can't wait to share stories live.

oh one more quick thing before I fall asleep on these keys:

Do you still have your Kentucky Ramblings list going? How I found you originally was through an article called Kentucky Ramblings in a magazine whose name my now fuzzy brain cannot remember. It had pictures of your lovely rag chillun.

Hi again Luna...yes, I cannot wait to share stories live too....we will have a grand time when we all do meet up. I am currently looking for a nice respite form the stuff I am going through right now. Some minor health challenges, a crazy job environment that I am in and hubby without a job right now (he got delt a really bad hand and he even gave the shirt off of his back and lost a lot of sleep). I need to experience some new, fun, therapeutic things and just enjoy life the best that I can. It was a true blessing that Frannie mentioned a get together in a magnificent setting and being surronded by "newly" found friends.

I sooo know what you mean about needing a 'respite from the stuff'. This gathering in a beautiful place with new friends is just what I need right now, too. I know things will get better for you and your hubby. You seem like a keep-it-going kinda gal. Just remember to take care of yourself too.

Frannie,
I am new to this forum and sitting here near tears as I read your story. I have pictures of CCF that I tore from that very same magazine all those years ago. It is still one of my favorites to look at in my scrapbook. I LOVE that little cabin!!! Your story just renews my hopes and dreams of one day having a place like that, when, at 43, I had just about given up. Don't get me wrong, I have a lovely little 105 yr old Victorian but it's within city limits. As it is, I'm harboring "illegal" poultry and I literally yearn for more space around me and more critters. I long for the day I can be in the country in an old, old log home like CCF. You are so blessed and I thank you for sharing this with us. It's really been a great encouragement to me, as I'm sure it has been to others.
Wishing you great happiness on your homestead.

Frannie...this is unbeleivable how this post came up as active when the last post was January of 2008 but I truly beleive things happen for a reason, and I am very grateful it did! I remember this farm in Cl years ago and have looked ever since trying to find the magazine it was in and it has never surfaced. Imagine my surprise when I saw this post and your farm! There it was and I know I have talked to you before on MJ's and NEVER knew your farm was the farm of my dreams! Coincidence...I don't think so! I had a farm in Iowa and sold it as I had gotten ill and couldn't maintain it but I am better now and although older I think your post here was a gift from above to inspire me again and remind me it is never too late! I will email you as I would like to be added yo your email list or do you use your blog now? Did you change the name to Freedom Farm? And also...another NOT coincidence...is that I used to hook wool rugs and had to give that up for awhile but I am just getting back into that too. This whole MJ thing has been a Godsend for me along with all of you! Never in my life did I think I would find such like-minded girlfriends but here you all are! Thank you so much for sharing all this....you will never know what an inspiration you all are! Love ya..........

Okay, Frannie. Just leaving you a note to let you know I did make it over to this thread and thanks to you, dh, kids and grands want to know why I've been on the 'puter for an hour and half! They are starving ~ Boo Hoo.

You have a lovely place and a more than interesting life. I will email you to be put on whatever list. That way, when you write your book, I can say, "Oh, yeah! I knew her when....was even on her email list!"

Shhhh! Not to mention the "age" thingie, but I worked in d.c. in 66 & 67.....that would be 1966, not 1866.

Love your stories!

Frannie, this is so funny I just happened into this post. Your little farm that was featured in country living is the only magazine I have kept from the past I used to get a subscription to it. I have not thought about that in years I have it in a box somewhere. I ket it because I loved it so much. who would have thunk after all these years I would be chatting with you. WOW!!!!!!!!

I always thought wow if I could ever have a place that would be it. I was going through a rough marriage and my country living magazines is what got me through it especially your place. Isn't that wild.

ginny .. we have so much wonderful farmland and olde houses here in kentucky .. if you ever ever decide 'kentucky's the place to be' .. i'll sure help you find your dreamhome. JOBS are NOT GREAT here in the hinterlands though .. most of the good-paying ones are in the bigger cities (as is true in most parts of the country). it is a wonderful place to retire to though .. or have a successful 'home-based' business from! the price of land and homes here is so incredibly reasonable compared to so much of the rest of the u.s. i know there are other wonderful states too .. and i know i would be just as happy in those (happiness resides within and we take it with us wherever we go).

i really liked it in the magazines too .. but i love it oh so much more now that we have made it our own.

re-named it: FREEDOM VALLEY FARM .. for several reasons .. someday, it's going to be featured in Mercantile Gatherings Magazine and tell 'the story of it' .. and show the fabulous things that kathy sugarbucket has done to this place since we moved here. (the editor has been bugging me to write it .. it's on my TO DO list!)

ohhh . .do come visit someday! xo

laura sweetie .. you are jus' 'down the road a-piece' .. i don't think you're more than about an hour and some minutes away! plan to come spend the night sometime soon .. but oh gosh! let me finish cleaing up all the stuff outta' the upper cabin and get it put back on the walls or in my antiques booth. i have a buncha' gurlz coming tomorrow morning to pick me up for a fun trip to 'town' (louisville) .. i'm gonna' be standin' in the road so's they don't see the INSIDE right now!!

AND .. be sure to come visit during our October GURLFRENZ GATHERING (will probably be about the third weekend in the month-ish) .. meeting with luna and kathy today to decide and make plans. i'll be posting all about it soon's we have gathered and talked.

LORDY! have you ever seen the J.Edgar Hoover FBI building across the street from justice department? (actually, as you know .. FBI is just one bureau under Justice Deparment.)

i worked at justice when fbi was still at main justice .. many moons ago!

do you know who L. Patrick Gray was? (acting Director of FBI after Hoover died?) i used to work for him and was his top guy's 'honey'. ohhhh . those were the days! (all this was around 'watergate' time!)
