Picked up the "Handful" issue today of MaryJanesFarm Magazine... it's wonderful!!!.. one of the first things I noticed was the ad for this board... I'm so glad to find such a wonderful group of farmgirls... I grew up on a farm in the Texas Panhandle, but at the time didn't appreciate it... now I long for farmlife... right now I live in the country just outside Shallowater, Texas, a little town near Lubbock... I'm 55, single, mother of one great son, Robert, 29... he lives near Austin, Texas, with his lovely wife Belinda, & they are in the process of adopting a baby...

Even though I live in the country, it's not a farm... I'd love to have goats, chickens, & a horse... not enough room in my small yard... but I dream of someday having enough land to live the farmlife again...

Right now I work at a small local garden center... get dirt under my fingernails on a regular basis... .. it's enjoyable work, but not what I want to do the rest of my life...

Glad to be here, & hope to get to know y'all...

Ditto that! You all ARE great. Although I do read your posts, I wish I had more time to sit with you. Anna and I just spent the day creating hand sewn stitches for my book. We both sewed and then I took photos. We loved how quiet it was here today with my crew gone for the weekend. We had tea and sewed. At one point Anna said she was getting light headed because I was teaching her some new little delicate stitches and in order to be exact she was holding her breath! I've taken your suggestions for the title of my book and what to put in it to heart. My editor was here from NY last week. Driving here from the airport on a Sunday night in the pouring rain she got stuck in the mud for almost two hours before a good samaritan with a big Dodge Ram wandered by to help. Her cell wouldn't work...she was in the middle of nowhere! We discussed the fact that my book is taking longer than we both thought, but she's okay with it. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR POSTS AND FEEDBACK. I think this will probably come through as a post from Sarah (sourjayne) since I'm on her computer. Love, MaryJane

Dear MaryJane,
It is so good to read your post and know that your book is coming along. You know for sure that multiple copies will be bought by all of us here on the Farmgirl Connection. I can think of many people with whom I would like to share it as a gift.

Thank you for making us, your readers, feel at home with you and also for alowing us to be a real part of your creations, both book and magazines.

How fortunate I feel to have MaryJane post on my thread!!!.. I'm still making the rounds of all the various forums, & am enjoying all of them... I'm learning a lot too... farming in some places is so different from what I grew up with... my dad's farm was very commercial & not especially "traditional"... a very successful enterprise, but probably never "fun"..

What a great idea for the book MJ. It reminded me of when my grandmother taught me to embroider. She gave me an old quilt square she has embroidered and never used in the quilt. I haveit with my first tenative stitches (chain stitch). When I got married she gave me the quilt. She said when I was little I said it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw and I'd like to have it. 20 years later she had remembered and it was my wedding present.
