Okay, time to get serious! I can't believe I've had all this time and am just now getting my stuff together today! But new pillowcases have been washed, thread has been soaked and is drying as we speak. So no more excuses for me! **I am the worst procrastinator!**

Okay...I am not in this swap but would like to be in a future one but have questions....do you buy ready made pillowcases or do you make them? I have seen kits with the design stamped on them but did not like the quality of the pillowcase material. If I were to make the cases themselves what kind of material would I be looking for? I read above that you soak your thread? I am assuming it is embroidery floss and to set the colors? So you soak them in cold water or vinegar or what? Where do you get the beautiful "old-timey" vintage designs to transfer? How many strands of floss do you use for embroidering them? I know....I have lots of questions but then I'll be ready for the next swap hopefully! Thank you and please post pics when you are all done....I would love to see them all and I bet everyone else would too!

It's all up to you.
1. I buy pillow cases, I try to get at least 200 thread count. I do not buy prestamped ones. However, you can make your own, or do what ever you like, there is no rules on this.
2. I do not soak my thread, and I've washed and dried all my stuff numerous times. I do however, wash my pillowcases first to get any chemicals off them and let them shrink if that happens.
3. Some of the vintage designs are still printed by their original manufacture! Aunt Martha for instance still puts out their original designs and new ones. Go to ColonialPatterns.com for their official site, you can buy them locally at numerous places though- Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Hancock's, etc. (walmart even used to sell them!)
There is other good places online that reproduce older ones that are no longer in circulation/print, patternbee.com is a great one!
Ebay has thousands, but be careful that you know exactly what you are getting (some of them are just copies of a original pattern, not the actual pattern, which sometimes can save you money as you can just trace them, but other times, they try to charge you the same as what you could buy the actual pattern for! So you must be careful when buying.) Another thing about Ebay, is often they are trying to sell still in circulation Aunt Martha Patterns, for like 10 bucks, that you could get from ColonialPatterns.com for like a dollar! So again, watch it when they list "vintage" cause while the pattern may be vintage, doesn't really mean that it is no longer in print!
4. Strands of thread is up to you. For me personally it depends on what I am doing! If I am using DMC I use between 1 and 2 strands-2 usually for most details, and 1 for facial and more delicate features. When I use Sulky Blendables, the thick kind that is supposed to be the same as 2 strands of DMC mainly I use one strand, but sometimes 2. Also with DMC and with Sulky I've used much more sometimes for french knots depending on how big I need them for the pattern.
But, the point is there is no rules on it, it's up to you! :)

Thank you so much, Heather! I will have to shop online as I am far from any of those stores you mentioned! At least 2 hours except there is a Walmart about 1/2 hour away but I already looked there and NADA. I'm excited to go visit those pattern sites you mentioned....I will definitely be ready for the next swap! I am excited!!! Thanks again!

I finally finished, I want to iron them though, then I will take photos. They will be mailed tomorrow. I got them washed and they are ready for ironing now. :)
Here's the ones my partner made for me though. I'll post the ones I made, after my partner gets them! :)
