Hi there! I am a new member from Idaho and I've been reading the magazine for a few years. I love the community here at the farmgirl connection and can't wait to get started!

Welcome! I think you are going to love it here, the girls are great. Someone was just in your neck of the woods and posted pictures. It was beautiful there. I think maybe it was Alee, but I could be wrong! You will get all kinds of great advice and ideas here.

A little about me. I homeschool my 3 boys and live in a rural area. No property yet for our dream farm but we hope to have a place of our own in the future. I am a greenhorn when it comes to anything homemade but my goal is to start small and learn as I go! I'm looking forward to earning Farmgirl badges! It sounds like a wonderful way to learn some new skills.

Nice to meet you Ann! I noticed that there is a "hens at home" chapter for us homeschooler types and I'm currently trying to join.
I will definitely need advice about... well, probably everything, so it's nice to know where I can go to get it.

| Hello Z - you aren't too far away from me - just over the hill aways. Making things home made isn't difficult but really is worth the effort. There are a lot of helpful gals on this forum. I have been canning for 30 years and sewing for nearly 40 (now that's a scary thought!! - writing it down makes one feel "experienced"...) I'm sure you will find lot's of help and inspiration here. Welcome. |

Hello to all of you who have given me such a warm welcome!
Sheri- I have never done any canning but it is on my list of things to learn.
As far as sewing goes, my mother was actually a professional seamstress for 15 years and I did learn the basics of sewing. I definitely need to brush up on it though. I have some patterns and really nice fabric that I have plans for but I have to get the courage up to do it! I figure if I set goals for myself I can get it done. This is where the badges come in!

| I'm up to my eyeballs in sewing for the next few months. My son is getting married in Sept. and I am doing the wedding gown, 7 bridesmaids dresses and 2 flower girl dresses. I really enjoy it though. So far I am just at the beginning of drafting the pattern for the wedding gown. Sewing has always been a good artistic outlet for me. I especially love to do heirloom sewing with all the tucks and lace insertion and embroidery work. I am of the opinion that there isn't anything that we can't do with a little determination. I encourage you to pick up your sewing again and just jump in with both feet. When my daughter was going to fashion design school and would get frustrated when she was sewing, I used to tell her that I just had 30+ more years of mistakes on her. That's how we learn - by fixing our problems. That applies to life as well as crafting. If you have questions I will be glad to help if I can. |
