...really old christmas lights! I see TONS of potential for them but I figured one of you girls might get a fire lit up for me with a great crafting idea.
This is all of them , about a dozen- and I don't really want to cut the electrical cord-
So what do ya think?

My decor is PriMitIVe- and a bit WhimSical- how can I incorporate these?
I also have theses two bulbs that are about 10inches long- it's hard to tell hom much bigger they are than the colored ones.

Any ideas girlz?????

Blessings,
Autumn

I know these lights can get hot so you probably wouldn't want to put them around cloth. But you could put them in a glass jar or vase and light them. That would be cute! Or you could make one of those boxes (like a wooden cheese box), fill it with fake evergreen branches, add the lights, maybe some taper candles. Maybe sprinkle the branches with glitter. Just make sure the wiring is ok before you plug them in!

How about painting little whimsical faces on them and them string them on a mantel, shelf, or anywhere that they are noticed. Different colors could be diferent things ie white - a snowman, red - Santa, yellow -reindeer... Acrylics would work or glass paint. I think they would look greet with some new faces! Would add some whimsical character to your holiday!! Here's a link to check out too --

Maybe take a wreath form (wire or grapevine) and wrap the string of lights round and round. If the old lights don't work or you don't want the intense heat from them, you could also wrap a string of mini lights along side of them and light those. Use on the wall or on a table around a big glass bowl filled with vintage ornaments.

I have some old lights that don't work -- not on a string -- and I put them into a vintage wire flower frog -- not the kind with sharp points, this one has individual wire hoops at various heights. I'll try to post a picture when I start the holiday decorating.

Have fun!

I agree that they could cause fire issues..
A long while ago I took some old bulbs and tied homespun cotton fabric that I tore into stripes and tied a bulb with the stripes and wrapped it around napkins for the buffet table. The napkins were from another homespun cotton fabric that I sewed so it all tied together. Then in the centerpience I took small pine cones from gathered here at the farm, cinnamon sticks, anise flower pods, cardomon seeds, rose hips, clove studded tangerines(because I was looking for the correct size) and whatever you might have around and place them in a old hand turned wooden bowl. Then after arranging everything just so I tucked in someone of the bulbs for the final touch. Smelled wonderful during the holidays and once that was over I simply removed the bulbs and kept the bowl of smell goodies out for about another three months.

Good luck and keep those bulbs they are wonderful to have.

WOW! What great ideas!
mAYBE i'LL TRY all OF THEM- A ROTATING DECORATION

I think they are not safe to plug into the electricity so I will likely use the tiny twinkle lights to showcase them! Thanks soooo much girls- Now all I have to do is decide which one I'll try this year!

Autumn, yeah, I was trying to remember how hot these old bulbs get...my idea was to hang the string vertically or horizontally and attach Christmas-y mini-aprons around the part that the bulb screws into..probably won't work due to the heat?? Alright...still thinking :0)

oh ok, yes that's a great idea to wrap the twinkle lights around the string. Then you could attach miniaprons since the big bulbs will not be on.
