03 November 2008 Jon & Kelly Humberd celebrate their first anniversary!
So here we are one year from our I DO's, it just feels so right. On Saturday the 1st of November we had our "First Annual Pot-Luck Cook-Out." Which was really our second since the first one was the night before our wedding last year. It was great everyone that came brought something different than anything else we already had on our buffet. Everything was so YUMMY!!! Of course being here in the South everyone who brought drinks brought Sweet Tea, I just had to laugh because I grew up with no sweet in my tea and loved it; this stuff is even better. We are hoping that as our "HOME" evolves we will host more gatherings for everyone. Of course Jon will love to have his shop stay a shop but really loves how clean it gets before we have people in. I'm already envisioning MJ Farmgirls everywhere on our farm for some sort of retreat - oh what the future holds!
Life is great and we are praying for our Country in this Presidential Election year. Please pray that as you cast your ballots that the choice you make is in line with what God has in mind for our Nation.
I'm looking forward to another year with my love and getting more involved with our farm as well as the "Diversification" we are looking into to help with income and supporting our neighbors with fresh produce right off the vine. Some time in the future we will have a blog or a site or something, until then feel free to keep in touch on here or via email throug our members profile page.
So that's my update. Many blessings and "so much love" to each of you. Kelly Humberd
Hello Mary Janes Farm Girls! It is good to be here - FINALLY! What a great day, we have been getting some slow drizzly rain all day - it has been over a month since we got any rain. In reading through some of the forum topics I just want to keep reading, but realized that I need to introduce myself and say HELLO to everyone.
In marrying my husband I said good by to the Navy which was my life for almost 8yrs. For the past 11 months I have been getting used to the farm routine although I am not a part of it yet. There has been a lot to learn and more to come as I get my hands into the dirt. We are looking to diversify our Agricultural reach in this community and explore many area's that we can better serve our neighbors. This winter will be a great time to spend reading up on planting times for produce and pruning the apple and peach trees we just put in - we also just ordered a pecan tree and 2 Shiro plums! Our tomatoes are still producing and I am giving them away since we can't eat them all. Next year I'd really like to have many more vegetables in the ground, it's all a learning curve I guess.
If you want to know more about our farm please email me. If you have information that you would like to share with me I would LOVE to hear from you - the more I learn from others with experience the better.
What a great community this is and I have "NAN T." to thank for introducing me to MJ's magazines and ultimately to this website.
Our first anniversary is coming up and we are having a "Pot-Luck Cook-out" on the 1st of Nov '08 if anyone is interested in coming just bring your favorite "dish" and a seat as we always run low on seating.
God bless and keep us all. Kelly http://www.homemadegourmet.com/kelly #826779
PS I've been wearing my Grandmother's aprons more and more all the time. I even sewed my first apron earlier this year; it is such a relief to know that I am not alone in my appreciation for such wearable personality.

Welcome Kelly, good luck with your new venture. Farming is fun and work!!! Gardening is sooooo rewarding--except when the bugs or a drought hits.

Kelly, I just saw your post and am new, too! You reminded me of when we first settled on our farm and my excitement--all the planning that winter for what I was going to do in the Spring. We moved our goats here and into a small shed for that first winter. Our children were SO excited. Good luck and Happy Anniversary!
