Just had to share this incredibly wonderful Farmgirl Dollmaker with you all.
Christine Crocker Doll maker Inspired by 18th & 19th Century Dolls
website address: www.DeerfieldFarmhouse.com
Christine is one of those friends in life who crosses our paths for a moment in time and we are forever blessed with that encounter. A friend, who i believe to be one of the most accomplished dollmakers in the country! I met her when i travelled to Oregon to make a 'hurrah' speech to dollmakers on the 'wonders' of primitive dolls. Christine is like a little fairie sprite and is blessed with incredible talent. Since meeting her, she moved from Oregon to Cincinnati but her heart yearned to return to the west coast.
(p.s. MaryJane .. since Christine is, indeed, a 'farmgirl' .. she would be a fabulous 'interview' for one of your magazines.)
From her website:
Deerfield Farmhouse began in 1987 when Christine first came to Deerfield Farm as a new bride.
She was born a hop, skip & a jump from her Great Grandfather's homestead.
Today she lives with her husband not more than three miles from where she grew up on her father's farm. Christine & her husband both come from generations of farmers, teachers, ministers & seamstresses dating back to the early 1700's at Plymouth.
Christine has always loved learning about the day to day lives of our ancestors from the 18th & 19th centuries - old houses, early dolls, & antique textiles - so she endeavors to recreate the feel of the old & love-worn dolls & keepsakes.
Each doll is created by handsculpting their heads from papier-mache. Their bodies are made from old cloth, then dressed in antique linens & humble cottons. Each one a wonderful & unique doll that is reminiscent of an earlier, simpler time. Do visit her website and see all the wonderous creations wrought by her hands and from her heart .. and tell her "frannie sent me" and be sure to adopt some of her wonderful dolls.
True Friends, Frannie
p.s. i have several other phenomenal dollmakers to recommend to you too in future postings.
