So,,, since the deer seem to be enjoying my plants down to the nubs!!! and leaving their little "calling cards" (deer pooh) can I use their pooh as manure???? after all it's just "re-cycling" my plants via the deer is it not ???... lol!

Good question. I do volunteer work at Morton Arboretum. They have lots of deer there too, I'll ask them if it can be used as fertilizer or not. I work again on Sunday, so I'll let you know then.

I would assume so since they are just herbivores. What you want to avoid is carnivorous scat (dogs, cats etc) as they can carry bacteria if not properly treated and composted first.

thanx Dawn for checking into this for me....

Alee, I have to giggle, I think my kitties would make a rather large pile of manure (which I couldn't use)if a deer came up to the window!!!,
My kitties love to watch the world go by from the windows....

I've always made my own compost using only veggitation & shredded up newspaper but thought since folks up here use chicken/cow & horse, maybe I should just 'harvest' the deer droppings and add to my compost...but then again, they leave it all around my fruit trees and the trees seem ok except the eaten leaves & chewed off small branches...

Okay Grace, go ahead and toss the deer poop in your compost heap! The staff gardener I work with at the arboretum said it would be okay for you to do so.

kool! 'cuz I have plenty! lol!
one friend made comment that if the deer have been munching on the wheat/oats then their is a possibility that we 'might' get some stray wheat coming up in my garden....like 1 straggler wheat plant will overwhelm my garden! lol!
Thanx Dawn for checking into it for me, now to go Scoopin the Poopins...hahaha!
