My mom used to always make her own baking powder from baking soda and cream of tartar.

I'd leave out the cornstarch because the corn it was made from more than likely is GMO. Unless of course you can get organic,non-GMO cornstarch.

I had to make my own once in a pinch....I think I used that same web site! Its amazing how many "bad" things are in something as simple as baking powder....I should just make my own all the time! Thanks for the reminder!!!

That's neat. I'll have to pick up some cream of tarter. What exactly is cream of tarter?

I think cream of tartar is a by product of wine making. It is like the residue of the process...I wish I could make that sound better, but that's the jest of it.

I had no idea I could make my own baking powder. This will be great to do when I run out.

Arrow Root powder is a healthier alternative to the Cornstarch.
It is also used as a thickener just like cornstarch and works great.
It can be found at any health food store.

Happy Baking!

I just took a quick look at the site to add it to my fav's...does anyone know how long it will store and where to store it? (frige/pantry?) It probably tells somewhere on the site that I overlooked!
