I seriously think I am having a mid life crisis but the even crazier thing is I am REALLY excited!! I have this sudden urge to change everything- recently has been the way my house is decorated. I have purged down to what I would call simple shabby beach cottage- decore with turquoise and pinks, without overwhelmingly girly vibe. I am selling about, well now 8 bins, of stuff at the neighborhood yard sale. I am also changing the way I dress a bit. I have a sudden urge to simplify but step it up a notch..if that makes any sense??? I want to buy better quality clothing, kind of a cowgirl meets beach girl meets chic city girl if there is any such thing existing in the world today.. I have this huge inkling to completly overhaul my looks...I want to grow my hair REALLY long---haven't had it long in over 15 years...and try hi lites for once.

I am just feeling overwhelmingly antzy, itching to pull the trigger, start down a new path, change things up QUITE a bit. I am only 34 but feel like I want to jump off that cliff and have some fun and be foot loose and fancy free!!! Oh boy....

I suddenly want to socialize like a crazy lady and I want to go see, touch, feel, be, do, enjoy, make memories more than ever. I want to find a best friend again...be the crazy gals that could laugh all night at the silliest thing, keeping inside secrets and sharing like only true girlfriends can. Its been awhile since I have had a friendship like that. I need some real life bonding!!! I am seriously questioning if I am losing it or just finally letting go!! HA!!!

I don't think I am trying to hang onto youthfulness, as I believe that is a mind thing---maybe just my body has finally caught up with my mind or the other way around???

Heather I too am going through that.... I am 37. I want to strip the whole house down to bare bones and just "startover". I love my hubby but feel an overwhelming urge to take off and drive.... anywhere for days, weeks whatever. I dont think you are losing it. I think you are finding yourself. When I was younger I would take off for weeks...I'd be in another state! In 1999 I hopped the red eye and went to Vegas for a wknd...by myself! I also drove cross-country(via the southern route) to "see" LA. I then drove back the "middle route" and got stranded in a snow storm for a night in Colorado... I stayed near a Reservation in Kansas... I slept in my car and ate nothing but Ramen noodles and doritos and gatorade. I dont regret a MINUTE of it! It was scary and exhilerating all at the same time. Like you, I too, long for that best friend to laugh, and play with. I havent had a best friend since high school....
Do it. Run with it. Live it. Dream it. Girl, we only live once..... whoop it up and fly!

Darn Dawn!!! You sound like me---we could have one heck of a road trip...my road trip junkies are Cherry Cokes and fish tacos and the occasional Pecans!! HA!!!

Today I am tearing up the house---it literally looks like a bomb went off in here. I am re-doing, re-purposing, putting in the yard sale bin, I am devouring websites like Coastal Living and several blogs for inspiration. Here's a few lookies for you :

http://coastalnest.blogspot.com/search/label/home%20sweet%20home

http://www.coastalliving.com/coastal

http://www.mybeachhousestyle.com/Index.htm

Back to my breakdown, I am REALLY analyzing the things in my home that really matter and I really want. I suddenly don't feel like I need to hold back and that I don't need to keep things that I just kept because- they were given to me, certain memories that I no longer really need to hold onto, etc...

I have never had a style to my home- I have alway hinted at it but never went for it. NOW I am going for it. I am so excited!! It might look like our home was robbed or we are just starting out, but I will be so much happier.

Same with clothing- purging things I just don't wear or wear with true happiness.

I am hoping to make enough $$$ to buy a new family camera and a bed for Charlie for Christmas. I think I have enough to do it.

More to come.. HE HE HE HE !! I am so giddy!!!!

Girls~I am 36 and am feeling the same thing here. I have gotten rid of so many things in the past year and changed our home so much. I had a yard sale and in addition to that took 5 trips to our local thrift store with the back of my van filled with things. I am no longer holding onto things just because. I already have another pile ready either for another yard sale or to go to the thrift store.
I also long for a farmgirl best friend. I have never met anyone that shares the same interests as I do.

How I wish we all live near each other!!!!

I used to have some fun fabulous girlfriends and lost contact and then got married, had a kid, started college and moved 6 times in 2 years, never be able to form those relationships. I have tried the local churches ( Very sweet people but I am A LITTLE too wild for their tastes but nice to chat with them) and I am really trying to carve out my niche and I know that is where I will find my friends.

Join the club, girls!!

I turned 51 this past summer and am going thru puberty, lol!
For the first time in my life I have been able to do things I like, I want, and I need, instead of thinking about others and not about me.

I now dress differently too, my home is furnished with things I like, and my books are the ones I want to read.
I meet more people now than the whole of my life before. I go dancing, go to pubs (nope, donīt get drunk lol), I just do what I like to do. To (((( with the past, NOW is the time to live, at least for me.
The past is gone, I need to go on and do the things for me.

I too feel like going places, just take a bus or train and go away. Ofcourse I wonīt but the feeling is there, lol

No more grey mouse, but the REAL me.

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

OH a PUB!! That sounds fun....

I just wrote a little ditty on non attachment and for me it goes hand in hand with truly living my life. I certainly have appreciated all the things that have come into my life, whether I wanted them or not. BUT,,, I let a LOT of it define who I thought I was, all the time trying to supress my inner Cowgirl/beachgirl Goddess!!! HA!!! Time to shake off the dust of the past and live RIGHT NOW!!! as me!!!

Here you can share, laugh and cry and know you got a friend that maybe even someday meet. You all got a good thing going in your youth. Let it go into your later years without regreats. Live and have the best time of your life no matter how silly it may look to world, cuz the world is looking and wanting it too. Laugh hard.

EVERYONE is ALWAYS invited to my humble abode!!! Do I KNOW they JunkGypsies??? Do IIIII know the JG??? My gosh I live (and drool) at their website. "Well behaved women rarely make history" is my MANTRA!! HA- I even have the "Mama tried" tank top...he he he!!!! College station is about 2 hours I think from me...road trip...and just means I would have to stop to thrift in Austin for the day...or darn.. : )

I think our gypsy souls are very compatible. (as long as you don't mind a very TALL Texas man and one 2 1/2 year old dragging along- they are both cute!!!)

I cleaned most of the house OUT today...tomorrow will be putting the house back IN..ha...or at least what I want back in. I am so excited for this yard sale and being able to move on. I decided not to price anything higher than $5, so it will all sell and I won't have to lug it!!! My home looks far from beachy right now but I will get there. I also tackled a clothes pile today and came up with 8 things to sell. I AM SO EXCITED!! I can feel good things coming around the bend...YEAH!!! I will try to post pics as soon as I get things all put back together.

I'm 36 and feeling the same thing as well. Have recently purged a bunch of stuff (15 boxes worth), simplifying the house, keeping what we really want to keep around, getting rid of the rest.

Personally, not so worried about what others think and am doing more of the things I want to do. I feel I'm coming into my own. I feel I'm finding myself again, it's a good feeling.

I had a slight panic moment last week and then realized how silly I was being. I broke a vase my mom gave me- supposedly it belonged to my GREAT grandmother- real cut crystal. Now this thing has survived 7 moves, one 2 1/2 year old and a large boxer. But, I just moved it to dust around and it ***CRASHED*** to the floor in about a million pieces. I actually held my breath!! I couldn't believe it and I started to panic..the heirloom, what would my mother say..etc..then I realized that I still have memories, people still love me no matter what and if they place material before love and happiness and accidents, then so be it. I never really loved it but it was given to me with conditions (And all ya'll know my Mother will probably NEVER come to visit and if she does, so be it) I really let go of a lot more than that crystal vase that day.

And again, I do believe in signs...I have heard George Straits "Give it away" 3 TIMES today!!! HA!!! I hear ya...

I can't wait until you take a trip up my way. There is a great antique show nearby in Mass. we could try. It's in July and September. I prefer September. Anyone else want to come?
I don't the JunkGypsies but you better believe I am going to look them up.

OH MY - I could have written Linda's post! I am 56 next month and finally living my life the way I want to. I spend so many years being the "daughter", the "wife", the "mother", always trying to do it perfectly, now I get to be ME! And everyone on MJF has helped me see that it's OK, no need for guilt...I'm not the only one that likes the things I like, there really are others out there...I wish I would have had this site 35 years ago!

As Heather said... I hear ya! My mom passed away last August, and the year before that my (then) 14yo daughter decied she wanted to live with her dad... after a whole year and a half of greiving the loss of custody AND the loss of my mom something inside me started shifting. Dont get me wrong when I say this, but after YEARS of being mom, taxi driver, coach, chef, etc etc...AND caretaker, errand runner, eyes and legs (mom was blind and an amputee) for my mom, I was...free. Free to be me, and do things I wanted and dreamed of doing... I miss them bth dearly, but for the first time I'm "living"....

Life really started for me at about 42. I was too hung up on who everyone else wanted me to be and what they thought. With my forties came self peace to some degree. I don't give a poo what others think of how I'm dressed or who "I" am . I am me, and that is a good thing in my book. I spent most of my life trying to be somebody else. What my mother wanted, my ex-husband wanted. Life starts when YOU start being who you are. You authentic self.

Oh Heather...if you want eye-candy...check out the latest Wranglers poster with Trevor Brazil (however you spell his last name) and his horse...Yummm (did I say that??).

I think I'm pretty well over my mid life crisis right now. I'm tired of being on the road, but the money is too good to quit right now. We are back to looking for 'the place' yet again to call home. I've changed everything up and now it's all settled back to a comfy spot.

But I definitely am in synch when you say you want to change things! My best advice is to just do it and find your 'sweet spot'. Like you, I'm a little too outspoken for most people and so it's actaully easier for me to do my own thing and just be me.

Go for it!

Winona ;-)

When you lose, don't lose the lesson!!
