Save Our Seeds - Feed Our Future

This is the slogan of MJ's Heirloom Mavens. The Mavens made a decision early on to keep participation in this group open to all farmgirls who want to take steps to keep our food free from genetic engineering (GE, also known as GMO - genetically modified organisms) and to preserve non-GMO seeds from becoming extinct. Although we have a henhouse to help with organization, we realize that those who are not in the sisterhood would not be able to post comments there - although everyone can read the threads in the henhouse. This place was created to provide a connection for Honorary Heirloom Mavens (HHMs) to post their thoughts and comments.

NOTE: Please begin your comment with "Regarding Henhouse Topic ____________" (the name of the thread to which you're responding) and post away.

We look forward to hearing from all mavens here as we.............

SAVE OUR SEEDS - FEED OUR FUTURE

God bless -

Regarding Hen House Topic ~Animal, Vegetable, Miracle Book Discussion~

I am good with reading two chapters at a time. It might be a good idea to do both books at the same time. I already had requested Gardening With Heirloom Seeds from my library and should have it this week.

So far, I have read the first chapter of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.

I am picking up Animal, Vegetable, Miracle from the library today. I can't wait to get started with it. Also will be getting Gardening with Heirlooms as well. I am one of those who likes to read more than one book at a time. So I will be alternating books.

Dawn~I would love to participate in the Patchwork Pillow you are making. Is it just a 3x3 square? I haven't quilted before and am not sure what you would need. Could I have some guidance?
Is it going to be round robin or just send you our square?

It can be a 3x3 peice of any fabric. You dont have to quilt anything.... If you want to embroider a word "grow, love, plant" you can. Or you can embroider "stems" with button flowers....

Maybe your good with photography and you could take a pic and copy it onto that iron on paper they have in the stores and embellish that.

Needle punching, felting, applique. It can be whatever you want it to be. Just make sure that it reflects who you are.....
I thought we'd do round robin, but I am more than happy to piece it together.

Here's what I thought I'd do.... for the center square I'm going to do redwork embroidery with "MJ's Heirloom Mavens". For my personal piece I thought I'd do some kind of photograph iron on.... Maybe a picture of a wreath on my barn, or a toad... or a chicken....
Feel free to email me if you need help!!

Hi all, I posted in the henhouse when we are starting our HMBC. I went with one book, two chapters a week because earlier we all were feeling a bit overwhelmed with all our ideas, information, wants, goals, and etc. I don't want anyone feeling overwhelmed and drop out. If you want to read the second book, which is going to be Gardening with Heirloom Seeds by Lynn Coulter before we are done with AVM, that's fine. I usually get even more out of a book when I reread it. This second book is wonderful because it has room on the sideline to write in. It would be a terrific spot to post which seed you want and where you can get it from. If you can manage it, it would be great to have your own copy just so you can do that.

WOW!!! This AVM book sings my song. :o) I'm liking it!! The library lets me keep it for 2 weeks and then I can renew it once. That should give me plenty of time to finish it. Thanks Karen for adding me to the list. :) When exactly do we get going on this officially?

Thanks Teresa Sue,
I just happen to have both books that I got from the library. I may end up buying them, but I like to borrow them first to make sure it's worth spending the money on. I really think the Gardening with Heirloom book is worth it. It's a very nice book. I sometimes forget the henhouse has more info so thank you for the reminder. :)

I know. I have already read the whole thing. I think it is a great book. I don't mind re-reading it as we go because I know I will get even more out of it.

Just wondering if anyone has started the discussion on the first two chapters for AVM~ I didn't know if I missed it.

**Badge Alert** I want to join in on the Farm Kitchen badge~is that the correct title?~ I will be keeping a journal. Teresa Sue can you add me to the list?

Dawn~Like you I have used Bisquick quite a bit.

Any suggestions for those of us whose hubands are not too happy with these changes and dont' want to participate in this new eating plan? My husband is a junk food lover. He has made some changes~no more soda and he drinks water.

Lillian~I would like some of the seeds that you offered in the "Seeds for the Taking" post in the henhouse. I don't have anything to trade. Could I send you some money instead. What do you have available, if any? I would really like the Jenny Melon.

This is all I remember for now. I will come back with more if I remember it.

I have a suggestion. The better lookin we get fgrom eatin good should be enough of a kick in the pants to get them to eat better! Better yet, let him make his own dinner! Just kidding. Make what you want and if he doesnt like it, he'll put cheese on it or smother it in ketchup!

My DH doesnt like onions or tomatos and I love them both. He will eat it or burry it under horseradish or something. Sometimes I make things the way he likes just because. And most of the time I make things without telling him and he wouldnt know if there was something in there he didnt like!!!
