Any suggestions for making a porcelain sink really white? I have been using (periodically)bleach, which makes it super white in just a couple minutes, but feel awful doing it. I haven't done it in months, but the sink looks awful-brown and dirty and gross. The house is almost 200 years old and at times feels like it has 200 year old dirt hiding in the corners so I would just really like to feel like I have a CLEAN and WHITE sink sometimes. Thanks!

You could try Bon-Ami scrubbing powder. It doesn't scratch like other products but really gets the grime out of crevices and corners.

Yes, Bon Ami and a little hydrogen peroxide work wonders. Then afterwards you can "seal" the sink using something like "Gel-Gloss". I am not sure how environmentally friendly that product is. I am going to experiment with some beeswax and oil to make a homemade version of that product because I have the same issue in my house!

I use Bar Keepers Friend for my porcelain sinks. It does a superb job & is very gentle. I also use it to keep rust rings out of my toilets. We have a lot if iron in our water.

Bar Keepers Friend and Bon-Ami both worked well on my old porcelain sink. Something else you might want to try is using paste car wax on your sink every so often. Smear it on, let is dry, and buff it off - just like you do with a car. It makes the upkeep a little easier. |

Whenever my granny cleaned our porcelian sink, she used Cream of Tartar. She said it would whiten the sink and it always made our white and bright! Belle

I have a scrub (1 cup each of salt, borax & baking soda) that makes things really nice & white that I use. Sometimes if I need more scrubbing power, I swish some vinegar around the sink, then put the scrub & scrub away. Hope your sink gets nice & clean & white!

Baking soda and vinegar, Bon Ami and Bar Keepers Friend - use them all on my sink. They all work great and are enviromentally safe and on the cheap side compared to some other things for sale. |

Baking soda with a little hydrogen peroxide added to make a paste works really well for "everyday" cleaning,it's sort of like a homemade version of Soft Scrub. Bar Keeper's Friend is great for those tough stains, as others have said. :)

I use Bar Keepers Friend. Form the powder into a paste with a little water, scrub around the sink, let it set for about ten minutes, then rinse a lot. Let the water flow through the pipes for a good ten minutes. It sure makes my sink white. Good luck. Marly

I love Bar Keepers friend. I have been using it for about 2 years now. I just read an idea for the disposal and have tried it and love it. slice or chunk really up a lemon, put it in ice cube tray cover with vinegar and freeze. Just pop them into the disposal. It works great and I found some ice trays at a yard sale for .25 so I was really excited. |

I use a pumice stone (like the kind you use on your feet). You can find them in any Walmart. You'd think it would scratch the porceline, but it doesn't!
