was just browsing around (ha! i should be downstairs doing some laundry right now .. i really MUST 'get a life'!!! well, anyhoo .. i noticed that there are 117 pages (15 names per page) of forum members .. (that's about 1,750 members .. if i did my math right) and MATH was surely not my strong subject in school!)
but by far .. most of you farmgirls are 'quiet as a mouse'. pages 47 to 117 .. there were no postings from these girls ..
and 2 have made over 2,000 postings ...
4 have made between 1,000 and 2,000.
4 have made 500 to 1,000
20 more have made 200 to 500 postings
32 are in the 100 to 200 postings range
and 48 of us have made between 50 to 100 postings.
surely no 'need' that someone posts .. but it is such fun to hear from all of you. it does seem that lots and lots of our members do 'read' the posts though .. and 'that is good enuff' for sure.
i belong to several 'delphi' chat boards .. and lordy! can't keep those girls quiet!!! (and that too .. is a 'good thang' .. as 'martha' would say!)
hoping some of you 'quiet sisters' will hop in from time to time with a question, comment, tip, idea, story, something to share .. and i, personally, think it is equally important that when we have the time .. that we sometimes respond to what someone has said .. t'otherwise, it might feel like we're talkin' to ourselves .. HA! and that too, might not be a 'bad thang' ..
well, i'm just 'musing' here .. guess i'll get down to that laundry now ... it's such a nice sunny, blowy kind of a day to hang clothes on the line outside here in kentucky.

Forum policies and guidelines are much more interesting, have you read those through? It would be helpful if we didn't continue to start new threads on topics that already exist. A simple SEARCH of subject matter would resolve this issue before anyone posts a "new" topic. Statistics on posting practices should be of little interest unless one was doing some sort of research.

I have found that the search function doesn't usually get me anywhere.
Something that is very simple and takes little time at all, is to pick a forum and scroll down through the topics headings. There is usually no more than a page or two.
If something looks interesting,I bring it up and revive it from there.
Much less difficult than trying to search or read through all the posts.
Still wondering what a delphi chat board is..........

Wow, there ARE a lot of people here who don't post anything. It may be that they think that they need to register before being able to read the posts or perhaps they register and forget they did so! I'm just happy to share and learn from others. I hope the ones who don't post are learning as much as I am!
I certainly don't have the time to post as often as some of you farmgirls, I have a full time job and a husband to spend time with! I haven't even got close to exploring all the forums on this site, and would love to revive some old posts, when I find them! |

Good point Sue ! I know when I first joined I DID spend alot of time reading through the previous topics and postings. It gave me a good idea of what the connection was about and the type of people that post here. Sure glad it brought us you, Ms. Eggs of Blue! (I like to see the old threads revived with a new perspective too, but in context with the previous posts).
As for the Delphi thing...haven't a clue either! Perhaps we will be enlightened?!

BEBSue, Bramble and Debs, excellent points! Thanks for sharing! I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computers, but I looked over the topics and posts before I joined like Bramble. I am patting myself on the back and can honestly say I was able to navigate and keep within the perimeters of forum rules in 2 or 3 days. What was really great was participating in posts already made...and conversing and getting to know the unique people who gather here. As I felt more comfortable I started new topics. It took a while though...but it was really more fun responding and chatting with others and learning knowledge and ideas. I can't put a price on the knowledge and humor and insight of these women!!!! Had to take statistical anaylsis in college and what a bore! Statistics on a forum???? Oh and one more thing...I am throwing myself a big farmgirl party when I hit the 10,000 post mark ( although I am not keeping a running count) you all are invited! Wonder if my stars will change to a nice hot pink!!!!

Exactly where do we find the forum guidelines? I read them when I first joined because them came up on the screen when I registered, but have since searched for them on the site and can't find them. I didn't realize that there was a limit on the number of topics that could be started on a certain subject. Guess I better find those guidelines so I can read them and learn the rules.
I have also read the member pages from time to time and noticed the number of posts that each person has made -- although I admit I didn't add them up. Kind of interesting actually but then I love statistics and information.
The only time that housework comes before sewing is in the dictionary!

Forum guidelines, first and foremost, come from one's own common sense. If you are having a conversation with someone, do you yell and dominate? Do you listen and answer quietly? Do you contribute when you feel you have something valuable to say? Do you want to help others to learn and become better? Are you making your surroundings better by being there? Ask yourselves these questions, and answer honestly and you will instinctively be following any sociable guidelines.

| The reason that more people here have fewer posts and fewer people here have more posts is that the forum is growing, and those of us who have been members for only a few months (like myself) have to catch up with those of us who have been here for a few years. |

I was under the impression that there were written guidelines that laid down the rules of the forum. I was just wondering where they are located on the website so I could re-read them.

JP...I concur! I'd like to add one thing, in case it helps anyone else navigate the site. Each time I log onto the forumn, I go directly to the top righthand side of the screen & click on Active Topics. This brings up a screen with all the topics with new posts that have been posted since the last time I visited. This just helps, rather than reading & sifting & clicking for hours and I like to see what everyone is talking about at the time. It's easier to jump into a conversation that way. The other thing that helps is using the search function to find past topics before posting. I've only been here for a few months, but already I've found answers to multiple questions that way. With so many women, with so many wonderful things to share...often a topic is begun and then falls between the cracks. I love seeing new posts in November, to a topic that was begun sometime in July. That's all!

That is what I do too, Jude, and it sure works for me so far. I get sidetracked easily and if I don't do it that way I would never get to all the new stuff!

Amen! Common sense does prevail! Jeannie pointed out a very important aspect of this site that makes it so special. We listen ( or at least try to) regardless of our differences and hopefully respect each person's contribution if it is presented in a respectful, humorous or informative way without "steamrolling" the group. Let's try to continue in that vein and not disrespect each other or what has been such a nice place to "visit". There is a place for everyone if they want it and their voices are just as important, if they choose to use them. There is an chinese proverb my Mom used to repeat when she thought we were getting a little too mouthy. "It is better to remain silent while listening and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth without understanding and prove everyone correct".

| i adore lively conversations with good gurlfrenz! my honey often laughs when he hears a bunch of us all together .. chattering away .. says he doesn't understand how we hear each other .. but we women DO hear every word we say to each other! (he also says he loves to hear all the laughter among us). most of my friends that i tend to gravitate toward are "not" the silent types. and i adore that! |

| hi sisters would like some input on this one if thats alright with you guys. dh and i hope to retire in about two years. we pay our own ins. and ya know thats a killer on the budget. we want to dowinsize. BIG TIME we have collected antiques and stuff for many yeare .we just are not sure were we want to move. canada sounds good to me but not to him. (ican work on that lol) waterfrontproperty seems cheaper there (than jersey )we are both in pretty good health.anybody got any ideas ?few ac. cottage type home. |
