Good Morning Ladies
I have spent hours on ebay and such to find that perfect apron pattern for my vintage fabric - If you would be so kind as to let me know your favorite one and why - I have several which I hte the way the straps wont stay put or you have to be double jointed to get it on - you know that type??
I do not wish to add to your workload but I have way too much fabric just sitting there crying out to be used...

I don't know if it has a name but the one I like the best is pulled over the head and tied at the sides. both front and back are the same I put snaps on the sides of mine. It has a big pocket across the front and in a pinch I can do the fold up and gather more in the front.

Grace, My favorite apron is one that my mom made me! It's simple and doesn't have pockets or anything, but I love it! It has 2 short straps that velcro behind your neck and then it ties at the waist! I will take a picture and post it for you!

Diana I love that kind of an apron - have been thinking of how I could make it look a little bit more interesting - I agree that it is a workhorse of aprons. I use that style when I am working with fiber and I have one that I wear when I shear - big front pocket for my tools.
Heather I was looking at that pattern all night on the web - how did it sew up? Does it have clean seams? I have a serger but would like a finished inside look without having to dig out the serger. I also looked at the Lola apron - know nothing about the company - found it on etsy but not much info - do you have the pattern? If so, what do you think of it?
Monica would love to see a picture of your mothers apron. One thing is I would have to add pockets to any apron I make because I am always put everything in my pockets...

Off topic a little: But how come aprons are so `in` lately? Donīt get me wrong, I love them too, lol. But it seems the last couple of months I see them everywhere! While a few years ago you couldnīt buy them nor see nice patterns around, and now I look online and find the cutest patterns and stores selling them too.

Dutchy Love that site you gave - bookmarked it to get futher information on how it works.
As for why aprons are in style - can not say for sure - I have been wearing them since I was six years old and that is a long time. Mine have worn out and I am down to one so I thought I better get moving before I am nake in the kitchen. I always am amazed how everything that is old is now new - I think we as mom's with grow children are now having them in the kitchen - my sons even wear aprons - man style but none the less aprons. I do not wear lacey ones but rather mine are workhorses.
I am loving what you are sharing - keep them coming PLEASE

my personal fav is a bib type that has a loop to slip over your head and ties at the waist. of course it has nice roomy pockets too *grin* when my sis was pregnant i made it with just a little idifference. instead of attaching the ties to the waist i simply put small loops there and made the straps come off the bib (instead of the loop) extra long so that it could "grow" with her. she uses it still 20 some odd years later! i will see if she happens to have a pic of it that i can show you. peace connie in alaska |

I took the pattern for the apron out of MJ Sept/Oct mag and had it inlarged. One of the first copies to come out was I think was at 200% fits my grandaughter really well. She looks so cute. If she would slow down long enough maybe I could get a non fuzzy picture.

Jenny thanks for sharing that site - found several that I would love and the funniest thing was the book "A is for Apron" I have but let a friend use it and completely forgot about it. I called her and asked if I could have it back - 6 months is long enough. The old gray cells are failing - I thought I had more patterns on aprons - but I think I am still going to add a couple of the ones you gals have mentioned.
I knew you would point me in the right directions - hope it is also getting others to be in the mood for aprons.

Guess What?? I won an auction on Ebay - first time ever and I got a 1952 Vintage Cobbler Apron - McCalls 1713 for $.99 cents - WOW the universe is for once on my side. Now I have to sit and wait for it to get here - Now I also have to decide which fabric to use - I only have about 600 to pick from, maybe I need to go fabric shopping?? Silly me, take a breath, go clean the barn!
Don't stop sharing pattern ideas with me - I still have tons of fabric that need to be made into something usefull.

Marian, Jenny, thanks for posting the apron sites. What fun! I keep thinking I will get an apron made one of these days, and it is so nice to look at some finished ones, and possibilities for later...

There is a pattern company called The Paisley Pincushion that has some really cute vintage-style aprons. Also, Sew Liberated has a couple cute ones. www.reprodepot.com and www.rubyjane.com both have some good apron patterns Amy Grace

Thanks Monica - I can not get over that I won something.
Amy Grace thanks for the two sites - I found a couple of winners at the rubyjane site. Oh My now I am apron crazy - mind is spinning with all kinds of ideas.
Better go to bed before I sit again for hours looking at aprons.

The Paisley Pincushion in Oregon has a reversible apron pattern my family and friends love to receive. It's one yard each of two coordinating fabrics. You but a big pocket in the belly area so nothing soaks through and there's a place for potholders and other things you pick up, and a pocket in the chest area for your reading glasses. The tie goes through a casing, around your neck, and is long enough to cris-cross in back and tie in front. You could adapt a plain cobbler apron pattern you create to include these features, too. I would take a photo, but the ones I have are either dirty or wrapped for giving.
Take care, Shelba |

Shelba we are thinking alike. I have that one on the list I am making - loved that is was one yard, reversible and had finished look. It gave me a ton of ideas for pockets and ties. Glad someone mentioned this one...
Bonnie I will go back thru the older posts - I started there and my eyes began to cross and my butt fell asleep while trying to read all the listings but that was also the same day the billy plowed my into the metal barn so I was not feeling 100%.
I really appreciate everyone help on this - This morning when I could not sleep I went down and started ironing fabric to get ready to start cutting - I guess I have to get the patterns first but BOY AM I GOING TO BE READY!
