here is a honey farm with a photo of the tupelo flower
http://www.sleepingbearfarms.com/tupelo_honey.php
------------
some of the best honey in the world..in my opinion anyhow:0)along with orange blossom honey
one thing of interest is that they have found that the colony collapse disorder is not harming the bees in the swamps..and the speculation is that the pesticides used in other areas aren't drifting down into the swampy areas where the hives for the tupelo are kept. but there was an article in the paper recently that mentioned these particular swamp area bees weren't being harmed by the colony collapse.(in the Appalachicola area)

Can I throw in 10 cents? Just read (for the first time) "The Secret Life of Bees" I loved the story and am now fascinated by the honey making process. I just think it is amazing how these tiny creatures create such a wonder as the honey and the combs. And what a connection to ancient history also.
(Sorry, just wanted to contribute my recently aquired thoughts on bees.)

I read the SECRET LIFE OF BEES, it was a wonderful story about strong women. It's a keeper. I was drawn to it because of the bees in the title. When I move to my mountain Idaho place, away from all this mono-cropped, pesticide laden lowland I am going to keep bees.

Miss Wilma - you are most welcome......tell Sterl that anytime he is out of tupelo honey, I will send more. It is something only found in these parts. And it is my most favorite. Thanks, Tina, for providing all the info.

....we have tupelo trees in the swampy areas around here. Should have told you that when I sent you the card. There is a movie out all about the tupelo honey makers in north Florida....it is called Yulee's Gold and stars Peter Fonda.

I knew Sterl would like honey....after all he picked you. :)

On the topic of Bee's. I took my youngest son Matthew (11) to see the Bee movie a while back.. and they had the old "archie" song "honey, aw sugar, sugar" in the sound track.. SO of course I had to bust out in song and display a move or two..( much to his horror).. Cute show, has become one of our favorites....

I know this has nothing to do with the topic at hand.. just couldn't help myself :)

Yea, but Matthew isnt always amused by my "antics"..... When he wanted to go see the animated 3D Movie called "fly me to the moon" I started to sing the old swing song.. and he said "MA, they wont have that song on the movie it is to old".. when the movie started it was the 1st song on the track and he turned to me, with his littl boney finger and said "DONT START".. ahahhah :).. cant wait until the BBB.. we can "swish" then....
