I just came back from our little country store, I went after gas , OUT, the gas company distribitor called them and advise not to fill tanks before Monday seems as the storm has made the gas prices go up, she would have to sell for 4.69 a gal, Well thank you girl she told them to keep it, This makes me angry, our people are already having a tough time then they just want to make it harder for us, I still say dont buy unless its nesessary

Just when our gas prices were dipping below $3.85 I was getting excited there for a minute 'cause it's been such a long time since gas was below $4.00. Can't win.

I got a call from a friend last night. She told me that a friend of hers had heard gas in Evasnville, IN went to $5.00 a gallon. She also said it was expected to make it's way up here by this morning.
I loaded the kids into the van as quick as I could and went. We barely made it in time. Casey's was almost out of gas and I got it for $3.68.
I only went cause I was on empty and have loads of running to do this weekend.
Today gas is $3.92. Not the $5 she said they expected, but still it's outrageous!

We went from $3.49 on Monday to over $4 today..yep..it's such a rip off and I HATE HATE HATE it. The nice thing is they lifted the hotel tax on rooms for people. At least someone is doing something.

Well, up here in my neck of the woods today it jumped to $1.35 per litre. Let's see, roughly 4 litres to the gallon, so $1.35 x 4 = $5.40/gallon. Ouch!

I'm sticking close to home this weekend, still have 1/4 tank, will try to wait this out for a few days!

The thing that makes me mad is crude went the lowest it has been in months, this is what I call gouging I will not spend one penny with them, I know a lot of people have to because of jobs and children , Lets show them what farmgirls are made of , dont go or buy unless it is an aboslute have to, i talked to my friend yesterday she draws a little over 6 hundred dollars soc. She said Wilma I am barely paying my bills. I expect meat will take a jump to because of the dry weather farmers here have already started feeding hay. We will start selling off soon

I just gassed up at 3.99 a gallon, the other places with lower prices were OUT of gas. I filled up my van, 30 gallon tank, yeap it was 100 buckaroos. Guess I should NOT order out for chinese tonight and fix up some supper instead.
We are told to expect 5$ a gallon by the end of the day, I'm going to make my tank last a month if I can....

This is certainly a hard thing for the country to go through. Normally I take Doug to work and then drive home in case there are errands or such that I need to run. Well, today I just said "take the car". Nora and I didn't have any errands that he couldn't do on his way to work. How frustrating for us all!

I wish I had been able to grow more this summer, but I am going to keep on trying to container garden all through the winter and this next year I am going to have a HUGE garden! I am am determined to make as much use of the land as I possibly can!

I figure that if fuel has to be used to transport food to me, then I can help the fuel crisis by requiring less food to be brought to me. I also figure that I need to invest in a big freezer so we can by a freezer full of beef during 4-H auction times when you can get really good prices on freshly slaughtered meat.

Miss Wilma - you are one smart lady. Crude is listed at 100.00/barrel, lowest since March of this year. It is just a panic mode set in motion by the weather channel and other news stations looking for a sensational story.....I know the oil companies are licking their chops at it all. Today I have heard some scary stuff, and wondered why the TV wants to scare everyone so much. It is mean.

Don't get me wrong, I conserve gas all the time and have a vehicle that gets great mileage. I just think in a storm circumstance, people go a little crazy.

Here in north Florida, our pipeline is from Louisiana and the Gulf states (Colonial Pipeline) and so we have seen lots of plastic bags on the pumps because stations are flat out of gas. I am staying home for the next two days and more if I can. Jesus will have to understand why I read my bible on Sunday morning and have a cup of coffee.

Jeannie we could break the oil companies if we would just set our minds to it, This year we have cut our traveling to have to only, I have enough food frozen and canned to last two years so they can keep their gas, Believe you me I know what it was to just go when I got ready but we have adapted well to the high gas, Now instead of filling the big tank with diesel we buy 150 gals just enough to get thru the crops ,we have to have it for, This year instead of going off a long way for vacation we are just going down in Tn

DH drives 40 miles each way to work every day. Because of gas prices, he is essentially making less money every year! Gas has to be budgeted for like a bill here; in fact, he ran the numbers and he could buy a new hybird car and the gas he would save would offset the price of a car payment. I don't want to be so dependent on it. :(

DH works for the Evil Empire and just called to say to get fuel today because it's going up tomorrow. Said in some places in the south it's hit the $6 mark. Northwest gas is being shipped south due to hurricanes this week, so our prices are bound to jump here as well.

I stopped to get gas at $3.94/gallon. A lady in line said that her sister had just called from Lansing, MI to say that gas was already up to $5/gallon there. I've not seen lines at the gas station like today since I was in CA during the Rodney King events.

It's really sad when the big oil companies take advantage of stuff like mother nature catastrophies...I mean, can they NEVER give us a break??? The oil companies are making record profits every year for the past 3 or so and yet say they can't drop the prices of gas any--I know it's not the gas station folks making the big bucks but their suppliers. I have changed my traveling SO MUCH to be like you Wilma and just tell them no thanks but it's still a cryin' shame for those that have to buy gas--sheesh especially to evacuate! Our gas is the lowest here it has been in months and months...today saw it for $3.69 and I was thinking woo-hoo, a bargain! I still have a half tank so didn't need any. We'll see what happens up here in the northwest gas prices after Ike gets through with his business, the stinker.

Yesterday, I filled up for $3.54 across the state line in KY, we then traveled to your area Miss Wilma. We were only at the funeral home for 2 hours and then headed home. Gas had already jumped .35 cents a gallon in 5 hours. I had to fill up so I could get to work today. If I could keep a horse in the city limits I would be riding one to work instead of driving every day.

These prices make it tough for the farmers who raise food to keep farming. I was talking with a farmer last night about the cost of feed for his cattle. It's scary to think about where we're headed if something doesn't change.

No kidding! I think owning and riding a horse would be cheaper, even with hay prices being ridiculous right now.

We went to town this morning just to fill up. I took our 2 gas cans (5 gal). Gas was $3.599. All the talk of the electricity going off down in TX made me want to fill my cans too. Our generator is a gasoline powered welder. The only thing we would run the generator for would be for the freezers. We'll protect our food, right after our lives. Well, then there is water, but it is raining.

I wanted to till my garden this weekend to get it ready to plant greens. I had to go buy gas....12 gallons cost me $60! I about fainted. You are right, Jami. Oil companies making billions off the catastrophies of others. YET if someone else was doing the same, they would be arrested! I bought gas just yesterday morning at $3.65 gal. and today it is $4.79 and rising. What a scam! If I didn't have to go to work, I would boycott them all. I take my hat off to the smaller companies who refuse to gouge their customers and go without selling gas at all. I haven't heard one word about all the "damage" that has happened to the refineries in the Gulf. Amazing! One now thinks $3.69 a gallon is a steal because we are now conditioned to the higher prices. We are still getting pardon my french....raped!

Thank God I live in the country!

Girls,
Gas here in our little town is 3.99 a gal today. Friday morning when I went to work it was 3.53.
I am so thankful for the simple life and my heart goes out to those folks in big cities. It is hard enough living here in the mountains of KY could not imagine the cost in a big city.
I have been hitting every sale I can find stocking up for winter. I grew up in a family of 7 children so there was 9 people to feed. We worked so hard storing food for the winter. (I am very thankful for parents that made sure we had plenty to eat and also for them teaching me how to grow, can, freeze and dry foods for the winter. My parents were from very large families (10 children in my Dad's family and 16 children in my Mom's family) was use to having to store food) We only have one child and she is grown, so it is just my honey man and I but I still stock in tons of food for the winter. I have put corn and apples in the freezer. Also, a few packs of orka and green peppers for soup. I sure wished I had time to can tons of food like I use to. Oh well, just as long as my pantry in full we will be fine or at least I will feel better.

Gas actually came down 10 cents at one station in our little town today, although it had gone up 43 cents yesterday. I blinked twice to make sure I was reading the lowered price correctly. It will probably jump 30 cents next.
