Last weekend we were talking to some friends who were telling us about how much money they have been saving since switching to buying their groceries at Aldi's. They just kept saying how amazing it is. But the only examples they gave were for foods like chips, pop, and lunch meat. Things that we don't really buy. I asked about their produce, and the wife said, oh yeah, it's OK. I really wanted to asked if she cooked much at home, but didn't want her to take it the wrong way, so I didn't.
So I was wondering if anyone on here who shopped at Aldi's could tell me more about it. The closest one is about 45 minutes away, so I haven't had the chance to go and investigate for myself. |

I shop at aldi's. We get chips, crackers, cookies, sugar, flour, vanilla, cereal, oatmeal, grits, eggs, milk, creamer, yogurt,sour cream,creamcheese, oj, condiments, soups, pasta's, cheese, chicken, chili, canned beans, rice, salsa, diapers, bell peppers, onions, potato's, corn, ice cream, frozen meals (pizza, taquito's), toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo, and before i made bread we got our bread there. I have bought their fruit but it seems as if it's been stored too cold, so it's mealy (apples) or mushy (banana's) but the veggies I've bought there have all been good. Aldi's has a website, and a few dedicated fans have blogs about Aldi's so you can get more info on the web. Any question I'd be happy to answer. I know prices for almost everything they've got so if you'd like a "for example" please ask.

Wow, Paige! That helps alot. Can I ask what kind of diapers/wipes they have? I have only been able to use one kind of wipes on my son, so I may just have to keep getting those somewhere else. And laundry detergent? Do they typically only have one brand of each product, and have you noticed anything that you would rather buy somewhere else because Aldi's quality wasn't as good? Generally, my grocery shopping is done at Kroger or Super Wal-Mart. I am sure it is cheaper than Kroger, I go there more for produce than anything, but what about Wal-mart? I think the convenience of having a smaller store would definately help me out, too. I dread going to superstores!

We have shopped at aldi's for years. Of course, the only one near us is toward Atlanta. When we go up that way - we stock up. Very good prices on can goods, ketsup, mustard, chips, cheese dips, paper plates - freezer bags, paper towels, can milk to name some.

I have shopped at Aldi's for decades as well.
They have great fresh veggies. Even english cucumbers! I also get turkey there, fish, shrimp etc. Spices too!
And all my canned goods!
They do ONLY have one brand of every thing. Except for sometimes they get a "special shipment".
Every thing is "name" brand but with their name on it. When my grandpa worked there, he said all the canned goods was libby's and all the cereals were Quaker. But, things could of changed since then, that was nearly 20 years ago.
Bread can be dirt cheap there. I don't buy bread often, but when it goes down to 10 cents a loaf, I do buy it! And can use it for a lot of things! I especially buy the hot dog buns when they go down to 10 cents. The make great "garlic" sticks-like garlic bread sticks! lol haha And when you get 8 for 10 cents! And you have a ton of kids to feed! They love it made into garlic toast/sticks!

Like Heather said, they have one brand of each item, and only what they've decided are the most used items. I should also tell you they have a great guarantee, double your money back or replace plus money back. No questions asked. They even took back cat food that my cat didn't like. I said "she's a customer too, and she wasn't satisfied!" The laundry and dish soap and diapers are all their brand. Their diapers are along the line of the house brand of Walmarts diapers or Krogers diapers, which I've also bought.

I just did my shopping at Aldi's tonight. We get a good bit for the money and I've noticed that they are getting a bigger variety in their stores. There are 2 near me now. I used to shop at Weis exclusively, but I haven't been there in almost a year! I agree that their produce isn't the greatest, but everything else there is pretty good. Soups, canned veggies, cereal, and kids snacks for school are some of their bargains.

Oh, cheese is good there too.
And how could I forget, my family's favorite thing from there, the Spiral Ham! DIRT cheap!
My husband loves that our bill is usually less then 40 dollars when we have a cart load! And that is a month's worth of shopping for us!

I've been an Aldi's shopper for over 15 years. I'm sure glad that they've added fresh meat to the stores, as the frozen steaks and pork chops they used to carry were pretty nasty tasting. You can really save a lot of money shopping there!

I DO!! I get many but not all things from Aldi's.
They are good, and the prices are even better! Toiletpaper, kitchen articles (cleaners etc), laundry products, bathroom cleaners, Sometimes a few cans of veggies etc, coffeecreamer etc.etc.
Not the fresh veggies and fruit, I don't like that, neither the bread. I get that from the baker mostly, or from another supermarket.

My friends and I have a small catering business, and I always start my shopping for a party at Aldi. Milk, sour cream, cream cheese are great there. When we do big receptions with sandwiches, we always get all the chips there. Sometimes the produce is great, sometimes not so great, but it sure is worth a look there first. Cereals, which are the greatest snacks for my grandsons, are reasonable there.
Another interesting thing -- gourmet items. Crisp European cookies, chocolates from Germany. Pretty interesting -- makes you wonder who their buyers are talking to!
And I like that I can pack my items in my own bags -- when I try to use my own bags at other markets, they still look at me like I'm just silly.

Georgiann, I believe they are a Danish based store. Aren't they Dutchy? Or something like that. I know they are not a "american" store. I believe that's why you see all kinds of things.
At Xmas time I used to like the stolen there with the perisiman pudding inside!

And yes I knew they owned both them and TJ's. I LOVE TJ's!
My 99 cent reusable TJ bag is holding up pretty well! I got the one with the fork and knife on it. Made from recycled somethings. lol haha I think soda bottles, but I can't remember. lol Memory is going away! lol haha Obviously!

I shop at Aldis every week for generic products like cereal,milk,
eggs, yogurt, flour, sugar, sometimes produce, but it is not always the best, they have some meat but fareway is better. You can save a lot of money on staples and paper products. |
