Annika, I like those too...you know www.cleoandme.com sells a very nice felt that has rayon/wool content..much less than 100% wool and is easy to work with and not too expensive.

I use my own felt from my sheepies, so do love to hear about new patterns! I just called the local fabric store to see if they will order this for me. Thanks for sharing!

For those that thrift...you can pick up the wool sweaters to felt and make the ornaments....for some reason the area that I'm in right now is full of wool sweaters..where I used to live that was colder then here didn't have any?? Anyhow..one more thing that has to jump into my shopping cart at the thrift store!

Those are soooo pretty, Annika! I would like a completely homemade tree too. I've been building up my woold stash by buying blazers and jackets from the Goodwill at only 50 cents each. Now I have a lovely assortment of colors to begin my ornament.s I may just have to have that pattern. Thank you for sharing.

Annika,
I love those ornaments. I would love to make them. What a great idea to just buy sweaters at Goodwill. I need another job to afford all these habits.

I too love making handmade ornaments from felt. I made a tiny one of my daughter's hand her first Christmas (she was eight months old) and then I just got carried away. I've made ornaments of our kitties through the years, one of a cup of coffee, teapots, owls, whatever I think might look good in felt. It is such a wonderful fabric to work with....

Queenofdreams: The reason you couldn't find any wool sweaters in a colder place is because they all get snapped up for peope to "re-wear" - that's what happens here (near Chicago), too. Although last year, I found a really pretty red wool/mohair blend man's sweater for $1.99 - you can't even buy wool yarn for that price!

The ornaments are awesome! So cute! I'm thinking you could get some of the shapes from cookie cutters, too. That pretty little heart looks just like a cutter I have, and it also looks like you "just" stitch on freeform shapes and stitch 3 of the little hearts together with a blanket stitch. I have a daughter and a niece who'd like to work on these.

Thank you so much for the great idea!

ann, the warmest sweater i have ever owned is a "dale of norway" that was FOUND at the "transfer mall" (transfer station for the dump!) i am always amazed that even here in interior alaska so much is tossed. we find very warm clothes there all the time.
theresa those ornaments are adorable! thanks for sharing. peace connie in alaska

Hello up there Connie! Saw your post about the maple leaves - ours are just starting to turn. They waited until exactly the first day of fall to start this year. If I moved away, I'd miss them, too.

The lady at one of our local goodwill stores told me about the sweaters. She said the best time to get them is in the spring when people decide they don't need/want them anymore. Sometimes they only have a little spot on them or something and that's why someone doesn't want it anymore. How foolish and wasteful!

ann, i cannot believe the wanton waste in this country! at least here they encourage you to pick things up from places like the "transfer mall" instead of like atlanta where you can go to jail if you pick up a piece of paper! i waatched a huge hole there becoem a huge mountain nicknamed "mt trashmore" in just a few short years. in fact in the 17 yrs i spent there they built 3 (or more) mountains out of valleys in just one county! i use and re-use until something is used up! everyoen is gonna have to start doing that soon or there will be nothing left to create new out of! our cabin is mostly furnished and decorated from the "mall". we built our chicken house and hay "barn" out of those huge wooden crates that movers use. we get them free!! works for me! *grin*
