1. Where were you when the attack happened and how did you find out what happened?
I had just decided to re-join the military the day before. I was with my recruiter and we were on a military base. Believe me, we knew quick what had happened.

2. What were your first thoughts?
At first, I thought it was a bad accident. I felt awful for the people of NY.

3. Many people had different reactionsas more information became available. What was your reaction when you were home that night with your family?

I prayed a lot. I knew that this would be changing the face of the USA forever. I was actually very motivated to get back into the military, not so much to "go and get them" but to help serve my country and bring back security and pride to our country.

4. Did you change anything in your day to day life because of the attack?
I live each day with love, love, love, fun and lots of laughter. I am not contained by material possessions but obsessed with memories and enjoying each day.

5. What is one POSITIVE thing that you saw happen in your neighborhood/community/country?
Blood drives, people thanking the military and fund collections for the families affected. For the firs time, I saw people, complete strangers, talking with each other in a neighborly, concerned way.

6. The Iraq War is often linked to this event in our history. Why do you think we still have troops in the Middle East?
I have a personal stake in the military, so I'd rather not answer but I am VERY proud and honored by our troops.

7. Did you know anyone who lost their life that day?
NO but is sure as heck felt like I did. : (

8. Do you think we are safer today than we were on September 11, 2001?
Yes
9. What will you do to continue to remember today and in the future?
Teach my son and never forget.

My husband and I took a moment this morning to remember the loss of his cousin, Daria Liu. She was killed that morning trying to help a woman who was 7 months pregnant to an elevator. Neither of them made it out.

Daria was a vibrant, beautiful, 28 year old professional from Chicago. Sadly she was an only child. Her parents still haven't recovered from the shock and loss of their beloved daughter. The ironic thing is they moved here during the Iran/Iraq war (my husband & his family are from Iran) to be safe. Our hearts go out to everyone who as affected by that tragic day.

I have 2 boys in the military, and while I am so very very proud of them and their friends as I know that "freedom isn't free". I also worry about the world we live in, and how the answer always just comes back to one simple rule "love one another". If we could only grasp that, what a different place this would be.

I was taking my daughter's lunch to school since she forgot it. I remember it being eerily quiet. I walked into the grade school and it was soooo quiet. As I rounded the corner to my daughter's third grade classroom some teachers were in the hallway crying. I asked what happened adn one teacher ushered me into a room with a TV blaring away. At that precise moment the second plane hit. I was frozen with shock. After awhile when we (as a nation) knew a little more about the situation I got sick. Talk about wanting your loved ones around you at all times....
