Wow - got behind again. Man, am I slow!!

Ok - hope everyone is feeling fine. We are getting back to normal around here, whatever that is. I am taking Metformin for my PCOS. Hubby also takes that for his diabetes.

Ruth - short drives.
Corinne, I hope you don't have to go back to Africa, but I know you will make the best of it if you do. I just bought a wonderful little French cookbook at the Goodwill yesterday. It's for vegetarian cooking. I am going to copy a couple of the recipes and send it to my friend who is a French teacher in northern Indiana. She's still learning to cook more than the basics.

Dawn, sorry about cutting the phone call short the other night. Lliam was having a moment. He couldn't figure out how to work the telescope and instead of asking for help, took the thing apart. Ruined it. Daddy got mad and the argument started. Lasted for hours. I have video of Lliam standing on his bed howling like an angry gorilla and peeling spongebob off his walls. He was drooling and crying and screaming for over an hour. His therapist said the let him vent when he gets that mad, but we were close to taking him to the hospital. When we finally went to his room to try to talk him down he starting freaking out again. Lance tried to grab him to get him dressed (only in his tidy whities) and somehow the kid ended up upside down. He stopped crying almost instantly. I think the blood going to his head made him quit. IDK, but I am glad it worked. We have had a good week since.

Lance went hunting over the weekend. Said he got a small 6 point last night but it got too dark to track. Was going out this morning to find it.

Dawn, no worries about the gas prices. I have worked some OT and have some extra cash. It's still about $2 here. I did she it in Indianapolis yesterday for $1.89!

I went to 2 Goodwills yesterday. We went to Wholefoods and I decided since we were in the Westfield/Carmel area I would go to the GW store. I bought a tooled leather purse for $7. I was so excited. I also got a couple of wool sweaters to shrink and felt.

Last week (Tuesday) I had the day off so after voting, I went to that BIG antique mall on I-65 exit 76B. I only got a few things, but my friend Amy, a trooper) went crazy buying. Good thing we took her truck. We were going to take her squad car, but she said "What if I buy something big?" lol

I don't remember if I told you about my wedding band breaking, but it was an antique and I decided against having it fixed. Why? After looking closely at it, I decided there were way too many places were it was thin and would probably break again. This happended about a week before vacation. So began a hunt for the perfect replacement. Believe it or not I found it on Ebay. It is a beautiful wide gold band with pine cones embossed all the way around. I just love it. I think I got a really good deal. It's 14k and I got it for $100. I put it on and (I know this might sound silly, but......) it felt perfect!!!

Funny funny - The farmers have picked the corn around us so as usual after asking permission, we went in the fields picking up the dropped ears. Since Lance took our utility vehicle with him, I was left trying figure out how to carry all that we found back to barn. Farmgirl creativity at work. I went to the farm store and bought 2 gunny sacks and some funky looking hook things. I saddled up my horse, hooked the gunny sacks to both sides of the saddle and made him carry the corn home. lol He looked like one of those donkeys that carries the sacks of coffee!! It was funny. It was getting late in the day and we were loosing light, I was tired and Lliam was tired AND we were 1/2 mile from home, we rode him home with only a halter and lead rope. He tried to go fast at first, but with over 300 lbs on his back and sides, he decided he had better walk. It was funny and a good time for me and Lliam. I wish you all could have seen it!!

Gotta run,

Lora #358

Hey Lora, it is good to see you in here. How are you doing ? Let me know if i can help with french cooking.
I guess it was fun to go on your horse and to bring back fresh corn. Don't we like it with just a dab of butter and salt, pipping hot and smoking ?
Wishing you a happy sunday, thanks for your kind words.

Corinne,
I do love sweet corn with butter and salt. Summer just isn't complete without it.
This kind of corn is field corn. It's the kind used for feed and ethanol and what not. Unfortunately, it's probably Genentically altered for better yields, but I didn't buy it and I'm not eating it. I am just using it for my horses. It keeps their teeth worn down from grinding it up and the squirrels like it too.

Morning Mavens, hope you had a good sunday.
Lora, thanks for clarifying things for me, I should have thought that being so late in the season it was manger corn. At least your horses will have some ears to chew on, that is good.
Well, it is official now, we will be on our way to somewhere before the year ends. Which is coming quite fast.
That means, among other things, that we have to pack and get organised. My sewing room will be organised first, since I have to sort out fabrics and notions, then I have to put together a full suitcase of quilts top to quilt, some applique work and notions for sure. And since I am in the middle of a mystery quilt with the quilt guide here, guess I will piece it by hand.
Karen, have you left home already ? Dawn, are you back ? Brenda, have you got ideas for handmade gifts for the boys ? Tina, I sent your posting to Linda (feedsack4ever), you should hear from her soon, Alee, thanks for solving the Paypal mystery. And all of you Mavens, you are very precious to me.

Corinne,
I hope that the upcoming relocation works out very well for you.
Hugs.
Gals..I hope you all have had a very nice weekend.
I found a plant swap group in the Ocala area..so I will hopefully have some plant pals to swap plants/seeds and to learn/share with in the Ocala area when we get moved.
They had a plant swap meet today..looks like they have a lot of fun with it.
So far they gave me a warm welcome via the internet.
So..I think when we get relocated the finding friends with like interests will be a bit easier.
I hope everyone is doing well.
I've been wracking my brain on what to do/make for the upcoming Holidays.
Tonight I crafted a few paper mache birds that will be painted white and glittered.
Something easy and cute.
I've got to plan out things though..oi! Don't know what I'll do..but I'll figure something out.
We have been trying to go along the lines of hand made/hand crafted goods.
I'll probably check out etsy.
Well..I'll try to pop in here on and off during the week, but I have a lot of cleaning/deep cleaning to do in the house..and more.
So I'll be quite occupied.
But will try to stop in now and again.
Hugs,
Tina

Corinne,
thinking of you, hoping all goes well with the relocation. Let us know when you get settled in.

I am having a tough time even thinking about the holidays. there are not nearly enough hours in the day. I am working part time but it feels like full time. I have no clue what is going on around here at home and then there is the stuff that goes on at church.
I wish I were 3 people sometimes.
hope everyone is well, will check in after work tonight.

I'm baaaack!

Phew! What a weekend! Got into Columbus Friday night. But I just HAD to stop in at Target before going to Dad's house and look around. Believe it or not, its been almost 6 months since I've seen a Target. I bought some organic snackies and my MIL's Christmas gift. Then onto Dads. Dad and I polished off a half bottle of wine talking. It was nice and I slept well....after all I had a queen sized bed to myself, no snoring hubby, no blanket hogging Lab! Ahh! Up and at'em early Saturday to go tothe poultry show. It wasnt what I thought it'd be...but then again, I've never been to a show like that before. My range of shows are horse shows....lots of money....very polished. THis was a total farmer show and it was great! Although I didnt get to see any breeds that I wanted (unless they were ducks which DH firmly says NO.....) I did get some funky bird pictures and made some great contacts. At work, two people have given their notice so my hours may be bumped up. I am really excited about that! And since I did so well at convention, that will be my "new duty". I will be the one that goes to these shows and sets up a booth/networks/etc. I'm excited as I LOVE to travel.
I did a little more Christmas shopping on the way home. Columbus, Ohio is filled with so many options that I couldnt help myself. I saw a garden center that was advertising Fall Bulbs, so I went in to look. All the sudden something caught my eye and I did a double take.... the sign read "NO GMO's, Heirloom Seed"...HUH???? I made a beeline for that rack and bought up handfuls of this seed. I havent had a chance to look for a website on them. The seed packet's name is BOTANICAL INTERESTS. As soon as I'm done here I will look it up.
How fun! There weren't alot of packets left which left me bummed but then I thought...welll if its gone, then OTHER people are buying it.... thats a good thing!
Sunday was the best day. I went to breakfast with dad and some Aunts, then onto see my daughter. We went to TSC and played. They had a plastic sled and I made Audrey get on it and i was pulling her around the store on it. We were laughing hysterically as we "burned out" around aisle corners. One cleerk finally gave us the "eye" and we had to stop. So then we tried on hats. Again, only took a few minutes to get another "look". Last straw was the equine aisle. I picked out a lunge line and hooked it to her. We either had to purchase something or leave..... hee hee.....party poopers. So we bought some stuff. I figured I owed it to the store to leave with something tangible...
I am home now and cleaning up the house for Lora's visit. Did ya'll know that she is coming to spend th weekend with me? I am really excited and pictures will be posted for sure! If we have time, I am going to take her to Lake Erie, and maybe somewhere else. Saturday we are having a bonfire and chili party at the farm so we will have fun with that! This week I have to make the barn into a "dining hall". I already hung curtains on the chicken coop and willbe getting some straw bales to sit on. The bonfire pile is enormous. I just hope the wind lets us light it up. If its blowing towards the barn we wont be able to. Fun Times!
I hope that everyone is having a great day! I will be in a nd out today as I am scrubbing bathrooms and stuff. Love ya'll!

Good morning/evening Mavens,
Good to have you back Dawn. It sounds like the trip did you good, farmgirl. I want some ducks too, just a pair, maybe. I understand duck eggs make the best pasta.
Hi, Alee, Corinne, Denise, Tina, Lora, & Annika. Hi Karen, where ever you are.
Well, yesterday we did nothing. It felt sooooo goooood. We had plans to go to our place and burn some slash in our orchard-to-be. We are trying to get that done as we are determined to at least plant a couple of apple tree next year. It was so rainy, wet, and foggy though we ended up watching Commanche Moon, the story of the Lonesome Dove characters when they were young. Five hours, you know I'm beat if I will lay still and watch tv for five hours, lol It was a good flicka tho.
Two weeks from Thur is Thanksgiving and I have a ton of stuff to do so I don't know how much I will be on here. This Thursday(QMD's BD, is my month end of journaling!!!!whhhoooohooooo. I'm assuming those of you who started will be about done, only a few days or so behind me. Yes, we are almost done with AVM. We won't start another until after Christmas, okay.
Hope everyone has a good day, love y'all.

I am feeling quite accomplished as I was able to get my house all "in order" over the weekend, well actually I started last week with retiring the patio furniture and taking the flower pots and stuff off the decks and putting them in the garage etc. Then moving inside..........moved furniture around and deep cleaned, washed drapes etc... (I always feel like doing this every fall and every spring)... "Blow the dust off... ya know. Anyway, got some fire wood cut and moved in....cleaned out the cupboards...... stuff like that........

My 2nd oldest is coming home next week and of course I want everything perfect...Been getting up around 5:00 to walk and exercise and get the kiddos off to school... etc.Boy it was/is cold here this morning. Feels like we hardly had fall... Went straight to winter....

Hi Rene', good to hear from you. Yes, I get that same bug, usually just in the fall tho,lol
When my grandbeasties were here a couple of weeks or so ago, I used grandbeastie power to get all my clay pots emptied into the compost pile! LOL, they thought it was a fun game and it got done.
On to the holidays!

Yay!! I have a day off!! Actually I had yesterday off too but we had family pictures with my in-laws (our nephew is home from boot camp then off to ? so we had to do it) then a family dinner with my family, not much of a day off really. So I got up at 4:45, saw my DH off to work out of town for the week, did dishes, laundry, scrubbed the kitchen floor and the bathroom and here I am. I have two Christmas gifts to try to finish today, or at least make significant progress on, plus vacuum the living room.

Corinne - I hope wherever you land is a lovely place for you. What address should I use for sending your Christmas gift - don't want to miss you but I am not ready to send it yet either.

Dawn - I have grown my garden with Botanical Interests seeds for the last couple of years and have had great results. We sell them at my work in our floral department and every year I wait anxiously for the display to go up.

Teresa Sue - have you seen Lonesome Dove too? We watched that last year. I actually read the book years ago, one of my favorite authors.

Glad to hear all of your voices, will check in soon.

Happy Monday!!!!!

Oh Amy Grace it is SO Good to hear from you! Yea! for the day off. Since I'm done with the cemetery I'm lolling around in time, lol, well, actually, I'm filling it up quickly with domestic chores, but it's so nice to be able to be home to do it. Have a great day.
Oh, yes we have watched Lonesome Dove, we now own both of those movies, lol My DH can sit and watch movies for hoooouuurrrrssss. I just can't do it. I asked him what he is going to do when we move to our place, we won't be able to watch tv like that because we will be on alternative energy, but he says he'll have too much to do up there to watch tv.
Look! we are at 150 Pages!!! We might catch up with that word association game if we're not careful, lol!

Good Morning Mavens!!! So good to me back to a normal schedule!! Jury Duty ended Friday night at 7:00pm when we delivered the verdict. What a long week. I must admit that I went into the whole thing with a horrible attitude. The thought of putting in 10-12 hour days @ 1.00 an hour, my time is worth more than that! By the time the trial ended, I had made new friends and realized that this would be an experience to look back on. Saturday and Sunday we already had plans for so Today will be catch up day for me.

Where are we in AVM? I took my book with me the first day, but had no time for reading, if someone could let me know I will catch up tonight. Thanks.

I am off to get started, but will check in throughout the day. It is so nice to be back!!!

Hi everyone! I'm back from a weekend of working on the farm and hope that I can stay in and dry today!
It's so good to have so many of us here. looking forward to trying to read more on the book. I'm probably not going to make the badge this time due to lack of time and ability to do things like set up sprouts. I will try again after the holidays for the badges. Sorry TS, And I still need to finish AVM
Between home and farm and family, I'm loosing time here. BLEH!

Good evening Mavens, thanks for your thoughts and kind words, you are such a supportive group, made my heart lift higher.
Today I am finally accepting what ever will we encounter. I haven't realized that I am not the one in charge and that following the current is the best way to stop worrying. It is always hard for me to surrender to the unknown.
good to see you Amy Grace, Lillian, Lora, Teresa Sue, Alee, Tina, Rene, Denise. Dawn, seems you had fun at the convention. when we are back to Canada we will be 10 hours drive away, it is possible to do it in a single day if the weather is fair.
I, too, have ordered from Botanical Interests, just their packaging is beautiful.
Amy Grace, at the very moment, I have no address to give you. The mail box we have with Aramex in Ny will be obsolete as soon as we live Kuwait and all we know is that we have to be out of here before january 1 rst next year. Can we take a rain check in a week or so ? I've sent your packet last week.
Teresa Sue, I started journaling on october 12 th, so only one more day to go. Now I have to figure out how to apply for the badge.
Have a great day dear Mavens, see you tomorrow morning.

Corinne, I will email you when I get a chance this morning. We had a lot of wind, fog and rain here. I am doing okay and have just been busy, busy! It is so hard to just be still inside and accept the unknown when you have so many worries and questions. I have been there too.

Corinne,
I KNow what you mean about "coming around" to the knowledge that we arent always in control.... UGH, I just hate that LOL! I look back on some of the things I have "had" to do over the years, and there is always a "jewel" hidden in the experience.... (although usually you dont see if clearly until you are out of the Whale) LOL.................You do have support here.. and while we can't go wtih you, we can certainly keep you laughing while you are there.

Yep. Went ot a chicken show. It was fun.
Oh Corrine... I am praying really hard that you end up on this side of the pond.... and I will make my first venture into Canada!

HI Alle and Amy! It seems like forever since I've talked with you two! I am giddy to see your names!

I agree with everyone on the household chores. I've been laid off for awhile now (working 10 hours a week only) and let me tell ya.... there is always something to do.. I have not had a lot of time for sewing or beading. This house stays perpetually messy. 3 dogs, me and hubby makes for a lot of picking up!

Does everyone know that Lora is coming to OHio this weekend? Please keep her in your thoughts as she makes the 4 hour drive Friday night! We are going to have a great time....just wish it could be everyone! Someday!

Okay. I have the living room, bedroom, laundry room and bathroom cleaned. I even washed a dog. Time for me to do something creative!

Hello my Maven friends,
It has been so busy around here. I have not stopped running since we got back from vacation. This weekend we did some Christmas shopping but not as much as we had hoped. Everything is so expensive and sometimes you just don't know what to get.
On Sunday, we went to Whole Foods and ordered our turkey for Thanksgiving. I just couldn't eat a regular turkey after reading AVM. I have to finish that by Wednesday because it is due at the library. I have loved reading it and have learned so much.
Corrine~Just know that you have friends praying for you and sending you (((hugs))).
Dawn~It sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I am so glad to hear. How neat that Lora is coming to visit you. I can't wait to hear all the details and see the pics.
Lora~How wonderful that you can get away for a bit and spend some time with Dawn.
I have so many errands to run and bills to pay so I need to go.
I hope to stop in later.
Blessings,
