Thank you Dawn, farmgirls are so caring and special. Say I need to roll up my sleeves and get busy in here to do my part. I have to go in town today but when I get home tonight I'm going to read all the post.

I've been saving my heirloom seeds to share so thats a good start. I need to keep sharing with others about the group here and what its mission is all about and help other to become aware of what is at stake. Its scary and real for sure, but theres a way and the farmgirls have the know how : )

I'm having a brainfart: is someone keeping track of who has what seed? We need to start sending that person our personal info so that she can make up a file of our names/addresses and what seed we have on hand.

My honey and I had a long talk about this last night. He knows how wound up I get about the subject and just wanted to caution me against coming off as a paranoid conspiracy theorist. I AM paranoid! I don't know what the blazes they are putting in my (our) food, drinkables, and medicines, cosmetics etc, etc, etc....what they are putting in my dog's food ! What they are doing to the plants that I hold dear. The planet that we are all floating around on. The nameless "They" that are doing so much of the GE and messing around with things need to listen up! While I have freedom of speech, I'm going to make noise! I want the choice to be healthy and to grow what I want to grow in my garden. I don't need genetically modified cows, goats, armadillos! ...what ever...my regular old fashioned corn is just fine thank you! sweet enough too....I don't NEED super sugar enhanced corn. or wheat that clears up acne or what ever there is ...the bottom line for me is I want a CHOICE!

1.) I'm growing heirlooms because I love plants, even though I'm not a great gardener. 2.) I'm growing heirlooms in an attempt to save them 3.) because I darned well want to!!! and 4.) For my health and for the health of those around me.

I wanted to start by changing one mind, and I have! My sweetie is behind me saving the heirlooms, and eating more organic healthful food. This is powerful stuff we got brewin' here. I know we will make a change in things, we are strong and have a lot of other like us in the world that believe like we do.

I can't wait to meet up at BBB and I will do my best to help others to get there and to put forth a powerful show of sistership that we all are part of.

I'm ranting again

I love heirlooms, for their own sake, like me they too are the quiet ones. Not "super wheat" or "crackless, perfectly round tomatoes"...the ones in the background. I love the enduringness of them, they reach back through time, and bring me in touch with my ancestors.

I'm going to love bringing this together with all of you. Let's do it!

HERE! HERE!

I am raising heirlooms because I desire and demand PRESERVATION! I am so sick of bigger, Better, STRONGER! I am doing this for all my ancestors
that worked the land before me. I am doing this for all my fore-fathers and fore-mothers that left legacies for me to learn and hold dear. I am doing this for our FUTURE. I am doing this so that I CAN LEAVE MY OWN LEGACY FOR MY CHILDREN'S CHILDREN! I am doing this for you, for me, for the ones that passed on (I love you Momma) and for the ones to come....

Annika, Annika, Annika - can I even begin to tell you how proud I am of you? My hubby and I had a similar discussion last night. He's on board with the importance of heirlooms and everything we stand for. Just a bit concerned about my "obsession" with the mavens. We had a good long talk though and it helped. I've copied every post into a word document (can you say obsessive?). It's 88 pages, Lydia BT font, size 10 (for those of you equally obsessive)........follow me to my next point.......it ties in with this one.......
.......
.......
Part of the reason I'm condensing it is for him to read and maybe it will help him understand the pull the vortex has on me. The other reason is just to give me some perspective. It's an even more humongous job than I thought it would be. I have it down from 88 to 8 right now and I'm only on page 8 of the thread. When it's done I'll e-mail it to anyone that wants a copy - sometime when I'm at a wi-fi site. I don't know that I'll ever be current with it. I'll just stop at the point the henhouse goes active. I'm trying to keep it to everyone's initial post and after that keeping only the meat. Ya know, cutting out things like "if it'd been a snack it woulda bit me." heeheehee

It will live on forever on this thread!

For your reading pleasure, as if any of us has time for that right now, check out the two threads I posted on the Across the Fence forum - one on going TV free, the other on simple living. I'm curious to find out how the mavens are dealing with these issues. (I already know how two of you special chicks feel!)

What an amazing story and legacy. Thanks for sharing that Karen, you are so fortunate to have all that. I see where you get those great qualities that I keep seeing pop up in our "conversations".

Oh so industrious I sounded with that post - 88 pages to 8 in a couple of hours. So NOT that far along - 88 pages to 80 - yea, that's more like it.

Have one load of laundry on the line. Another in the washer. Chicken breast poaching on the stove. Two batches of cookies chilling in the frig. Dog on the tie-out, laying in the shade of the tree. All because I discovered one advantage to dial-up - I can disconnect myself! Of course, I went flying across the room when the HMV released its hold on me but that's a small price to pay for getting some home work done.

Checking in....I'm now on page 16 of 68. That means I've elimnated 20 pages of "extraneous" material and kept 16 pages. That's the equivalent of page 17 on the thread. So if I'm getting the equivalent of 1 thread page during the cutting, I'll end up with almost 40 pages???????? So brain-dead right now! It is a fascinating read though to see how far we've come.

Dawn, did you say you "got a compost pile?" How do you do that? Do you just run down to Tractor Supply and say, "Load me up with a medium-size compost pile, please." (We don't have a TS here so maybe that's the problem. We don't have a Tractor Supply or a Teresa Sue so I'm sure that's the problem. Here in Show-Me-State we have to make our own compost pile. Been workin' on that fer nigh on a year now. First one's lookin' perty good. Jest waitin' ta start me a worm farm bin when we git back from our travels out west. Yep, that's what I'm a-doin'.

Hey! Just because if I were another inch taller I'd be round doesn't mean you can equate me to the Tracter Supply,ROFL!

Wow! I just got back from my accounting class and doing some mandatory chores. I have found I need to get at least some chores done before I log on or nothing gets done all day! HMV indeed!

I am so pleased with everyone! I am so glad we are all excited, happy and vitalized WOO HOO!

You know Dawn, something you posted made me think. The title of the thread _IS_ Danger of Extinction and like you said, this conversation is far from extinct. So if we can make this conversation far from extinct- think about what we are going to do for those plants! They won't know what has hit them!! LOL

Thompson and Morgan has the most beautiful varieties of veggies! They say that they are non-GMO and it is worth the look even for a slow connection. I want one of everything :P
They have a beautiful free catalogue too.

Just throwing in the pretty stuff to give us some eyecandy =)
