hey gals! yes Amy Grace..the new area is full of cool opportunities for our family..we are all really excited..and yes..I have to keep reminding myself of that while going through/sorting out/cleaning up/tossing out. And here I have been accused of being a "neat freak"..ha..but I've been discovering quite a few dust bunnies and finding out that I certainly had a way with "hiding/storing" things away in places..ha. Anyhow... once I get this huge garage sale out of the way that I am planning..things won't feel so much to have to pack/go through. I managed to get an entire book shelf sorted out(at our house we are book collectors of sorts/loads of books here)and boxed up what hubby wanted to keep. Yesterday I went through the home school cupboard in the living room and boxed all that up(what I was keeping) and moved the cupboard into storage area in garage. So..I am making progress..slow but steady. Then next week I'll be moving a big antique wardrobe into the garage for storage to free up room in the master bedroom, and packing up the winter clothes. So..yes...there is a light beginning to glimmer at the end of the tunnel..but I still have a few small areas to get painted/a few things yet to get straightened up/fixed up. And some yard work yet to tackle and some plants to get planted in the flower beds. But..it will get done. And yes, that is why I have been a lot quieter on here..just been really busy. hugs, Tina

good evening Mavens, hope you all have a good week-end. Sorry I haven't been around at all since last monday but have been busy organizing and sorting things out.
Dawn, my heart goes to you, as Amy said, we love you so dearly. Sorrow will pass but in between, let your emotions come and go.
Tina, I am all with you with the move, boxes and more boxes ahead and then when they reach the new place, it is going to take me a long time to sort things out again and find them new places. I still have visions of a few things where they were in Canada 6 years ago when we started moving around. About Seeds to Seeds, I have the book and it is an excellent one, explains a lot of things we need to know about saving our own seeds and making them grow appropriately when it is time. I also got a new book (but published in 1987) by Louise Riotte : "astrological gardening".
Lora, your cooking looks so good, congratulation of doing things from scratch and adding lot of organic food to your meals. Dawn, Amish food is just splendid, like the apple pie and the shoo fly ones a lot. When I am back to Canada, we can plan going to Berlin together anytime, that would be such a pleasure to get to know your area and spend time with you I am not saying that very often on here, but I already told Raymond many times, that we will have to go visiting ya'll. Maybe it will take me 3 trips to do this, but count on it. One trip would be the East coast, since it is the closest from home, then the West coast and then the Center.
Amy, please remind me the dates when you plan to be in Paris, I want to get my train tickets ahead of time. by the way, yesterday we got confirmation that Raymond will be commuting to Gabon, Africa, starting sometimes in february. We have less then 3 weeks to exit the house and get everything ready. The container will need 2 to 3 months to reach France, but since I am taking a few suitcases with me, 2 filled up with quilting projects and books and seeds as you can imagine, I am sure I am going to be okay.
Karen, will go see the new NewsLetter in a minute. Denise how are you doing ? Teresa Sue, I miss you. Annika, how are you feeling now, any better after the week-end ? Rene, thanks for re-sending the email about the Minor U, will think about it. Marcy, haven't hear of you for age, how are you ? Ruth, Lillian, Brenda, Dalyn, Cheryl, Sue, hope you are going great. Sorry about putting the 'Getting to Know' list as an attachement, forgot that Vista has a life of its own, I've resent the email with the list in the core of the email, hope you got it all right now. Sweet dreams to all of you,
Corinne

Good morning/evening Mavens. Well, more snow last night and our hiway 27 that I live on is closed again. I guess I won't be going to the post office this morning. I still haven't been able to get up to my sewing room and get much quilting done. Maybe that's whay I'm in such a blah, death to snow, frame of mind. The ceiling in the walk-in closet where I keep most of my fabric starting leaking and I had to move my fabric, incase the ceiling came down. So, one of the spare beds is piled about three feet high with fabric, as is an easy chair, lordy, I have got to get some piecing done! Not much new, I baked bread yesterday and read a junk food for your mind novel.
Dawn I wish I were there to give you a hug. I know nothing that any of us can say will make the pain go away. Grief is one of those things you just have to ride out. I know you are strong enough to do that, and so do you. I know that you knowing that, does not make it easier, but you will come out on top of this, I promise. I am sure that with the holidays just getting over, you going back to work when you don't really want to be there combined with the long hours and the tierdness that goes with that haven't helped. Your little day trip with dh and the memories that came with it, just put you on overload honey. Take a breath. Try to be good to yourself and get some extra rest if you can, and make yourself a cuppa and just sit and be. We all love ya and will keep you in our prayers.
Amy Grace if you have to be out in this today, take care!!! Annika, I'm sure you'll be shoveling today, go easy!
Tina my mind went into a tailspin when I read that you are having a garage sale in a week or so. I thought, a garage sale in January? Then I remembered, you have no snow, would you like some, I'd send you some, but I can't get to the post office!! Good luck with your garage sale :)
I just don't have the patience for garage sales anymore. I'm in such a decluttering frame of mind that I just pack it up and take it to the second hand store. When I make the decision that something is leaving my house, I want it gone now! As soon as the BBB is over I'm sending my thirties bedroom set over to my daughter's house for my granddaughter. I am ready to move to Idaho girls. Well hopefully I will have internet tonight for the MMM. If I'm not there, it's because the internet is down.
Corinne I miss you too! I knew you were busy getting ready for your move. I think it would be splendid if you came and visited! The astrology planting book sounded interesting. I think my daughters are all going to get me gift cards from Amazon, Yea! more books, lol.
Hi Denise, Lora, Cheyl, and all my other Maven sisters!

hey Teresa Sue..I actually hate having garage sales, but I have so many really nice home decor items and some furniture that has to go..that it will be nice to get a little pocket moolah out of some of it.ha..if it was snowing..no way would I be even remotely thinking of something like a garage sale...I'd be hibernating. How you all can handle all that cold up where you are is beyond me..I'd chatter myself to death probably..gosh I'm a wimp when it gets cold here in Florida...but we do have different cold than what you all have..combine ours with lots of humidity and it becomes a "wet cold" that goes clear to the bone. Have met folks from the Ukraine and Russia tell me that the North Florida cold is worse than what they have been around in Russia because it is wet/not dry and easier to get sick in weather like that..now isn't that weird? You'd think surely Russia/Ukraine would be worse than here..sheesh. Ahh well. yes..I do tend to hibernate if it gets real cold out. I'd certainly be in major hibernation up where you all live....ha. Stay safe and I hope your house can be repaired soon.

Oh Tina - I have had my share of yard sales too and I hate them, there were people on my porch half an hour early, just staring at us through the window, good luck!! Well Teresa Sue, it finally happened, they shut down 195 so DH and I are stuck at home with the DS yet again - I'm not going crazy or anything, no not me. Actually I am going to try to organize my magazines, get rid of most, unfortunately since I have not been able to get my car up the driveway and DH's car is filled with tools I am just filling boxes and stacking them which does not help the feeling of claustrophobia. Corinne - I just talked to my parents, we will be planning our trip with the purpose of making definite reservations next week - I will let you know exactly when we are planning on being in Paris then. All the rest of the mavens I'm thinking of you.....Will probably be very talkative today as I'm still stir crazy:) Amy Grace

Well - worse actually because all the snow has come in 2 1/2 weeks so there has been no way to get it out of the way. Makes getting around more of a challenge. We are lucky though because we have a Subaru - actually we have renamed it the "Superoo" because it goes anywhere. We could have made it to town this morning but we already knew the road was closed and didn't want to create problems for the highway department. I still felt like a wimp though - we have driven in worse, so here I am at home and the new person I was supposed to train in my department is working alone. Oh well, the store is always there in the morning no matter what has happened!! Rene - did you guys get a lot of snow too? I guess the Pineapple Express is next, should be interesting:) Amy Grace

This year is def worse! We're supposed to get more tonight and tomarrow. If I can't go to work tomarrow, I'm putting my loungy jams on and drinking hot cocoa all day!
Hey Sue, I tried to email you and it came back, you are the gaelictoad, right?
I'm just decluttering away, yea!!!! By the end of the year I should be clutter free!
I just have to put on my snowpac, overalls, etc and go shovel out a path so I can bring wood in, scrape off the satellite dish, and empty the garbage. Then I'm going to put on a pot of white beans with ham and let them simmer away while I while away the rest of the afternoon in my sewing room.

Sounds like a good afternoon Teresa Sue - our garbage is at the bottom of our driveway because the garbage company couldn't pick up this morning, I'm hoping they will make it out later today. DH already cleared off the satellite dish once today. I have started working on a pair of mittens that I started a year ago, then haven't touched since March. Just finished one, the cuff on the other was done already so I'm starting on the hand part. Kind of nice I guess. I don't think tonight's storm is supposed to be as bad as last night's. Certainly hope not. Enjoy your sewing!! Amy Grace

Tina I'm whining about the snow because I'm just feeling a bit claustrophobic at the moment. I actually prefer cold to hot. When it gets hot, I just melt along with it and I lose all my ambition. The only thing I want to do when it's hot is drink sweet tea and lounge in my hammock.

Okay, I'm poppin in for a quick update. As some of you know, my night was interuppted by my kid's troubles at school. Ever since Aud moved out she has had trouble at this school. Personally, I think it all boils down to jealousy. One gets jealous of this or that.....so Audrey spent about 5 days with me over break and when she got home her BF told her she "changed". Aud was like....whatever.... people do. So this girl gets her knickers in a knot and leaves Audrey at a party. Aud went to find her at anothers house and found her..... not being so lady like with Aud's recent ex-boyfriend. Aud and this kid were together about 2.5 years. So it hurt. Aud left. Went home-so she said. LAter that wknd Aud found out they posted an obscene bulletin on myspace about her, they papered the house, they twisted the outside lock on the front door so no one could get out, and stacked logs against the back door.... they also deficated on the front porch. Now, I'm no pro when it comes to raisin' kids, but that is just out of control. Aud's first day at school was met with threats, tire slashing and a deputy sheriff. They allowed her to leave school 20 minutes early for fear of what this girl might do. Thank goodness my dd had the foresight to make copies of the bulletin as it's felony.... I think. All of this happened within minutes of me browsing my Lehman's catalog and looking at all the old school toys...pogo sticks, blocks, lincoln logs...puzzles and thinking... I played with that.... These kids these days need a good turn over Mama's knee. I'm not joking and I'm sure I'll get some flack for that. There is no responsibility, no respect nor a sense of pride in one's self. Maybe that's what shifted over break for Audrey. All I talked about was a simpler way of life, when a handshake meant a sealed deal and neighbors watched out for eachother. I talked about my new relationships with all of you and told her that this is what true friendship is about.... I know without a doubt that you all have my back. You encourage me to be better than what I think is my best. I also talked to her about the symbolism of an apron.... nurturing, formidable, strong, simple, dignified, proud. She even bought one for herself....wearing it proudly to the coop to gather eggs. Go look at my blog, she looks genuinely happy.... So I tell her last night, that with a little hardwork all of the opportunities that her school offers her can be found here-if she tries. She wants to stay there because of the sports medicine program she qualified for this year. She can start at the tech school next year and grad with a physical therapist assistant certification. She just has to live thru this year. So I'm going to research and see if our little hick town vocational school offeres something similar and crossing my fingers my ex-husband will see that she is safer, and better off back home with me. This happens all the time at the school where she lives. I let her move out at 14 because I felt she'd have better opportunities, but she is miserable. However, I do not think for a second my ex will reverse custody. His hatred for me runs very deep. I think he is a grand father and a good provider for her, but to what extent? A 16 yo girl needs her mom....period. So there you have it. My drama for the day. I love you all. Talk with you tomorrow.

Oh, Dawn, you and Audrey and all involved will definitely be in my prayers. What a mess! I don't really know if kids today are innately "worse" than in the old days but I do know they have a lot more "ammunition" at their disposal. As far as the parents living up to their responsibilities, I'm not even going to go there. I know too many who don't - but I also know a lot that do and that gives me hope.
To the rest of you lovely mavens, I'm still here. Getting down to business with the house and that's why you haven't heard much from me. Robbie started riding in a van pool today and went to be early last night as he needs to get up at 4:15 now. So I skipped last night's chat (yes, I'm having withdrawals this morning but I'll live) so that I could go to bed with him.
So I will be in and out of the DOE this week. Know that I will be keeping you all close to my heart.

Oh my gosh, Dawn! That is so scary for your daughter to be dealing with! *hugs*
Sorry I have been absentee lately, ladies!
I got a lot of beautiful Christmas Cards from ya'll and feel bad that we were so broke I couldn't afford postage to send you cards back. Some of you enclosed a little something extra. Thank you very much. Everything is beautiful.
Doug opened most of the cards since I was still in Wyoming. So some of them I don't have return addresses to. So I hope this general Thank you is okay!
I miss you ladies- and I promise I will be logging on and chatting more in a few days. Right now is the tail end of about 7 months of stress so hopefully before school starts on the 14th I will have my house and life re-organized! Check out my blog if you aren't quite sure what I mean.
I love you all and think of you all as my sisters so please forgive this sister her absenteeism and I will chat with you more soon- I promise!

Dawn, CAn't Audrey decide on her own at 16 who she wants to live with? Some states legally permit that once a child reaches a certain age. I can relate to you issues with teenage kid issues. My Grandson 15 just went through a similar drama with a kid who bullied him. Threateded him & his family. Fortunately it got better just before Christmas break. Kids can be so cruel and rude. I thought there was program in the school system that protected our kids against this kind of thing? I will pray she can move forward with good choices as thank you for being supportive of her. A lot parents don't make the time.
